all animals age differently to huans.. its to do with the size of the body and the size of the heart and how much work it has to do.. thier heart beats faster than ours so it wears out before ours... thats why hamsters dont live to be very old heart beats really fast wears out realy fast.. most dogs are their age in years x7...

because their life span is shorter so they reach maturity and old age before us.apparently its all to do with heart rate and metabolism.the tortoise for example is slow and steady with a low heart rate lives longer not shorter than us.while a mouse is speedy with a fast heart rate and ages far quicker.in the same programme i got this info from it stated that on average we all experience the same number of heart rates before we die (of natural/age causes)its just that the mouse uses his up first and the tortoise last

Their metabolism is faster hence their shorter lifespan.Metabolism is faster in large breeds which is why big breeds like Mastiffs tend to be short lived.
