I think that Iraq and Afghanistan is in the same pot. Neither government will be safe from secretarian violence until the U.S. and other coalitions forces stabilize a working government. This is not an overnite thing. These two countries are governed mostly by relgion. And its hard for some of Afghans to accept change and therefore they retaliate, becoming insurgents. Thats why it will take so long for it to become peaceful. It's like a an evolution into the "new world". It's just a guess but I don't think things will start looking up until another 10 years.

Afghanistan faced Brits, Russian and now Americans. The features of their land helps a lot. I wish it will become a peaceful country. But I'm sure that USA will not make it peaceful nor Taliban well. Because Taliban want to rule according to their own freak rules. They destroy schools in their own countries because they don't want the kids to learn anything new, so they will follow Taliban leaders all the time. Don't believe anyone who says that US troops are killing a lot of Taliban. These people hide on the high mountains, actually they fight the Americans, but they are still bad. Afghanistan will be a peaceful place when USA stop looking for the terrorists there.

Afghans have greatly suffered in the past 30 years, either by outside forces or by Islamic fundamentalists and the Taliban. It will take another 30 years for them to become stable, to replace their top cash crop of opium with an alternative profit-making venture. It has little assets. The tribal leaders in the countryside actually runs their own little zones, and in those zones are still millions of landmines hidden from the days of the Soviet invasion. It's a divided country. The Taliban want to turn the country into a 7th century society again, where women have no rights, even when raped, where the intelligencia, such as teachers, writers, journalists, doctors are killed in mass. The Afghan people will be splintered, the national government will not be centralized until the tribal lords' armies lay down their arms, the Taliban is defeated and recognized as an evil force, and their economy will have to become self-sufficient. I believe it would take at least 30 years to accomplish. This long-suffering country deserves our help and aid.

There is a chance that it will become a stable country in time. Opium is at the root of the problem. If the poppies can be legitimately cultivated for medical purposes this will give the local farmers an income, which they presently have only because these self-same poppies are grown for illegal drug use. As long as this is the case and as long as the Taliban act as overseers of the drug trade, the conflict will continue. It is unlikely NATO will pull out, since most of the troops involved are British. The rest, as we know, are American; they, of course, might just pull out if there's a Clinton-type president in office.

As a matter of history over almost the past two hundred years the Afghan people have never failed to expel any invader. The Soviet Union left when they realised they were on a hiding to nothing in Afghanistan. How long before NATO gets the same picture and departs ?.

Cloudy to mostly cloudy with a chance of rain in the plains and cold freezing rain in the mountainous regions. The weekly forecast is usually pretty acurate and the rains should last through the week with the sun breaking through the clouds on sunday and monday. All together a pretty crappy week in Afghanistan, but hey spring is right around the corner and the poppies will be blooming.

Afghanistan will have to be concentrated on more closely, due to the rise in Taliban activities. The International community needs to start to make solid commitment to the war on terror, and not sideline themselves. Thus, leaving the US to carry the load all the time. Or being part of the body of the UN will mean nothing without International support. We will continue to only get criticism from a bunch of lemons and do nothings.

Afghanistan will not have piece until foreign invaders get out. In recent years they have had Russia occupying the country and now it is the USA and UK. Why cant these third world countries be left alone to manage themselves.
All through history the Europeans have caused havoc in other countries and the rest of the world can see that.

Afghanistan is destined to be just another on a list of United States' military outposts that they will continue to occupy and supervise and tutor and pay local politicians to capitulate on and on into the future much like it is in Korea and so many other places around the world ---- this place will never be totally independent again--- there is no basis for any real stability--- any forces that they could generate of their own would take multiplied decades to strengthen to the place where they could actually repel any real attack or invasion---and the U S is not going to put this much money and time into anything and just have it revert back to enemy control as soon as we would pull out --- SO--- there we are and there we'll stay for the on and on and on infanatum !!!!!!!!!!!
