There are religions and there is a personal relationship with God. Often, the two are far apart because religions are made by man and their doctrines are determined at least in part by man. Just think of God as your creator and the creator of all things. The most important thing in my opinion on how to judge a religion is to see how the members behave towards the world, towards one another and particular towards strangers. They should be open, kind, non judgemental and live by those standards every day, not just on Saturday or Sunday. Tell your friend to pray (talk to God). He's out there and He hears and already knows what is in your heart. Just ask.

For relatively objective write-ups on a number of different religions, try Religioustolerance.org:
http://www.religioustolerance.org
or Religionfacts.com:
http://www.religionfacts.com
He might also want to try the Belief-O-Matic quiz at:
http://www.beliefnet.com/story/76/story_7665_1.html
to find out which of many different religions most closely matches his belief system.
And personally, I believe all religions access God in different ways, so all miracles (if miracles happen) come from the same source.

Sometimes you need to go to many different kind of churches to find what works for you. I tried Catholic, Pentecostal, they were both o.k., but when I got involved with the right church, I knew it. I ended up in a wonderful Christian church, we are very open minded and respect all others, which is very important to me. Good luck, I hope you find what you're looking for. It's out there, you just gotta look. Do some research online if you have to.

A unbiased religion would be the religion of 'humanity', human welfare. All other religions are worldly, with the devil having a free hand in it.

Basically, all religions are bad. They perpetuate close-mindedness, blind faith in child molesters who preach the word of bipolar maniacs, and fundamentally keep people from thinking. Listen to Karl Marx: "Religion is the opiate of the masses."; all it does is distract people from the world.
