Talismans and relics can not be originated to one specific culture or place, many cultures and sects around the world have them independantly from each other.

An example of this would be Native American tribal shamens with special necklaces or the ancient celts of Ireland with runes and tablets.

Naturally while these objects mean something specific to each user or believer of the talisman, each have a different purpose.

Every culture in history has its own talismans, charms, and trinkets. They have existed as long as man has. Things that have a special meaning that is not religious like your mother's wedding ring on your wedding day are talismans of sort and show us where the origins might be.

Nobody really invented them, they seem to have cropped up all over the world as soon as people learned to work wood, stone, and metal. The most striking examples, in my opinion, are from the Middle-East and Asia.
