If your black light is the elongated tube, fluorescent type the amount of electricity consumed is very small. If it's the more traditional light bulb style it will use a bit more, but not enough to cause a spike in your electric bill or anything. If you enjoy the effect, leave it on !! The life of the bulb won't be affected much at all. Being turned off & on has it's own effect on a bulb's longevity.

In the 70's I had several of them on most evenings to get full effect from my black light posters, it also makes some fabrics look really cool. Enjoy !!
