I think girls will feel all dependant and think that you think their not capable of doing it for theirselves. Now a days, all women want is to show guys that we're equal and that we dont need yall to do everything for us.I would rather open my own door.Girls like to depend on theirselves, not a guy,now a days.

I come from the South and most men down there still open doors for ladies, whether it be a car door or a building door. However, I moved to California 3 years ago, and only a few times has anyone opened the door for me. I always open the door for anyone, male or female. But you know what? I think opening the door for someone is more of a simple gesture to show you acknowledge them. It makes anyone feel special, in the smallest of ways. When my guy and I get to the door (car or building) whomever gets there first opens the door for the other. I think it is an individual choice. But if you want to make a lady feel special...go for it! It also shows respect.

It isn't phoney to open the door for her. Why be so lazy? It would show her in a little way that you care. If your a gentleman you would do it. Act like a real man & show your woman you care by opening the door. There are almost no gentlemen around anymore. What is wrong with being one?

I think that men now days are just getting to be too lazy. What is wrong with taking a few extra steps, around the car, to show your lady that you adore her, by opening up the frickin' door for her. Gosh, why does everything have to be so difficult for guys? My husband, when it is cold outside, will go get the car, & pull up to the store, open the door for me, & shut it. He says that he didn't want my precious hands to get cold touching the door, & I happen to think that it was one of the sweetest things any one has ever done for me, & let me tell you something, he was getting special treatment later for it.

In today's world, a man opening a car door for a woman means one of two things. Either the car is new or the girlfriend is.

I've had vehicles with remotes since 1998. I won't unlock the passenger's side door for the lady I'm with until I get to the door. I treat ladies the way I treat my mother, and the way I'd like other men to treat my mother, or my lady, when I have one.
Beyond the concept of chivalry merely for the sake of impressing a lady, is the demonstration of decency, of care, and of unselfishness. Additionally, the act of opening doors for ladies likely came about during times when the horse and high carriage were around, and helping a lady, who likely was wearing a cumbersome dress was de rigeur (sp?).
Anyway, if you actually care about the lady you are with, open her door. If your car is dirty on the outside, open her door. If you are simply trying to impress her, open the door.
On the flip side, I've had many ladies who refused to wait for me to open their door (hence the reason for forcing them to wait for me to unlock the door), and others who would state that they didn't need me to open their door. I told one that I knew she didn't NEED me to open the door for her, but I did it because that's how I felt about her.
Ultimately, what does it hurt for you to open the door for her. And, while we're on the topic...when you're walking anywhere on a sidewalk or the street, you should always walk on the outside of the lady, closest to the street. That's a whole 'nother piece for chivalry and demonstration of care right there.

I think the days of opening the car door for a girl are over, girls seem to be more independent these days.
Saves you the energy as well. :) I wouldn't worry about it.

Stop being lazy and open the door. A gentlemen would still do that even if it means he has to take an additional 10 steps. You could use the exercise anyways.
