I have the same problem here is a trick that my grandmother used growing up. I know it sounds weird but TRUST me the curls turn out really pretty and natural...OK first wash your hair with voluming shampoo and conditioner so there is no weight. Then use a voluming moose. After your hair has aired dry completely spray on some voluming hairspray through out. Brush your hair. All of this will keep it not so silky, and very light so it isn't weighed down.....OK now here's the Grandmothers part Get a bunch of socks, like the kind you would wear to the gym thicker cotton ones...Roll your hair with them and when you get to the scalp tie the sock ends in a knot so it is held in place. You will need to sleep like this for about 8 hours. In the AM before you take it down I have found that hitting it with the hair dryer hot hot for about 3-5 min then letting it cool completely helps to keep the formality. Spray a little hairspray before you unravel your locks. You will have awesome curls that will last......

Try getting a wavy perm. If your hair is not too heavy, chances are a wavy perm will hold up well with your hair, but should still be fairly easy to straighten when you want it straight.

Hair like ours, the real truth, hair extensions. It will protect your hair ends and hold curl all day long. I grew up in the 80's when perms and big hair was the style. My hair looked see thru in bright light. Today I wear hair extensions and I feel beautiful.

A few suggestions;
-get a perm
-coat all your hair with gel, then braid or put up in curlers for 6 to 8 hours /til dry, then spray heavily with old fashioned hairspray and never touch it again
-stick a wet figure in a light socket

Well I find the best way is to braid it wet right after the shower and add gel to the braids after you braid them. Rub the gel in really good. Leave the braids in over night and voila wavy hair for the whole day. Try doing differnt size braids for effect.

i have exactly the same problem! i use lots of hair spray and mousse, but the best thing is to curl your hair when it's dirty. it's kinda gross but the curl holds right away and it stays all day. hope it helps!!
