My name is Adam. I am a first year student at a community college and my tuition and other expenses book, supplies, etc. are paid entirely by financial aid. However after the first day of school I became very ill with pnemonia and I have not yet been able to go back since. I have missed a total of 6 class days. Will financial aid make me pay them back if I fail any of these classes? and will they award me any financial aid next semester if I fail any of these classes? I heard that since it is awarded by the school that if you transfer to a different school you will be awarded by income alone and not by previous gpa and preformance in school i would also like to know if this is true? and last but not least is there anything I can do in these special circumstances? thank you for the help!

Go to Financial Aid office, or e-mail, or call, just get in touch with them. Usually if you withdraw from a class for extenuating circumstances there is no penalty. Also, if you fail your classes meaning your GPA will drop below a 2.0 then you go on probation, which might not take away your financial aid package, but you have to pull up your GPA. Also, unless the professor has a strict attendance policy you should not fail after 6 days of not attending, talk with your Prof. have documentation that says you were terribly ill, and most of the time you will be fine they will let you make up things. If you have not yet contacted your professor tell them soon, the longer you take the more likely they are to think you are BSing. Again financial aid policy varies by school, state, but the federal aid is the same across the board if your GPA falls below a 2.0 or you drop below half time status your aid goes away.
