I see so many pit bulls with homeless looking types, street kids, Jerry Springer types, ghetto/trailer trash, druggies etc lately that I have to wonder why? WHY do so many lower class type people choose pit bulls???

One of the responses was that they are over overpopulating and they probably just found them. I partly agree with that. Lower class people are less responsible and dont have their pits fixed AND let them roam the neighborhood which has lead to a population explosion of them. The post before me exemplifies that. He/she was wondering if her pit bull should have her pups outside or inside. She asked it THREE TIMES!

thankyou, pitbulls attack innocent children, thier owners their neighbors, etc. And trashy people think it makes them look tough if they have a pitbull. In my city which is a nice place, you would be surprised how many regular middle income people have pitbulls. they are not careful with these dogs and I know a family that had two pitbulls and they thought theres were good, until they snuck out of the yard and bit the nieghbors nose off. I hate those stupid dogs. Stupid people say - its not the dog its how you raise it but guess what its actually a fact that the pit bull was first mixed out of two dogs for the purpose of being a mean fighting dog back in the late 1800s or early 1900s

if they are lower class ppl then chances are they are poorly breed pits. i do know what u mean i don't fear the pitts in my small town but if i am out with my dogs and kid i will avoid ANY dog that is walking thier owner. like the other day young couple came outta a lower classed house with thier pits walking them to go potty... the women was just screaming at the female she had while it drug her up and down the trail and the man wasn't doing much better...i waited until they turn and went back to thier house because if they couldn't control the dogs just to pee then what are those dogs gonna do when we try to walk by? its ppl like that that should not have dogs they could be sweet pits with the right ppl however those are not the right ones.... i know drug dealers that have them its like for them u have to have a pit bull. they are a symbol and bad owners just make it worse.... i'm not saying ppl who are well off or are middle class...have anything to say... they might to... just most get the pit with out looking into what the breed really needs.

no bad dogs just bad owners....

We have that problem here and I see a great many pit bulls chained to trees. My neighbor thinks it will keep thieves away. I don't get that mentality. These chained dogs (and not all pit bulls) usually end up getting teased to be mean and then they get loose and bad things happen. It certainly does not help pit bulls reputation. I just took in a pit bull mix that had no hair, no medical treatment, but a little guy-could be a boston terrier mix (same blood but different rep) If you move quickly around him he just screams and is terrified. He came with a rope still tied around his neck. He is soooo sweet. I would like to get my hands on his previous owner.

i think that although pit bulls are such a beautiful dog, they have a bad rep, and that a lot of people would get them to show how "tough" they are. They think they look cool just cause they own a pitbull, and many of these people dont know how to adequately control and train a dog this powerful - which in turn leads to dog attacks and then leads to the dogs getting an even worse reputation.

I don't know man, but it's a shame. I love pit bulls. My friend's have one and she is the sweetest dog I've ever met. It's a shame that people who raise the dogs to fight give the entire breed a bad name.

Pit Bulls are actually naturally fairly dog aggressive but are very people friendly unless they are brought up abusively. And you can easily make the dog more dog friendly just by socializing them well as puppies

Also, to you people who own Pit Bulls and took offense to this question. I think you're looking at it wrong. I do not think he was implying that everyone who owns one is white trash. I think the point of the question is that those low lives who stereotypically own Pit Bulls give the breed in general a bad name.

I live in a nice neighborhood and several people do have pit bulls, they are well behaved and interact fine with my lab. To answer the question we only see "losers" on T.V. because just like anything else on T.V. we only hear about the bad.

Any dog can be a problem with lack of socialization and poor breeding.

I am neither a loser or a low life - I work full time and have a very nice home that I share with my pit bull--I didn't "choose" him because of his breed -- I "choose" him because he needed a home and I wanted to help him out--never been so glad I did --he is a great pet and a faithful companion. He is neither vicious or mistrusting. He is the sweetest kindest doggy I have ever owned. You are kind of an a SS hole aren't you?

Low class people and wanna be's choose pit bulls because the breed represents strength, tenaciousness and fighting prowess. These types of people are pretentious and yearn to possess these qualities. Pit bulls in the right hands are magnificent dogs but unfortunately their qualities attract low life people. They are also very easy to obtain since it's a prolific breed and the ghettos and animal shelters are full of them.

Lower class type people? maybe you should go back to your sarcophagus an chill out for a bit mate.
Who has, proportionately, higher rates of crime an phisical attacks? the same people your on about.
An don't you think that due to the nature of the breed its not really considered (as you might call it) upper class material.
