Of course drivers can't just go 190 MPH in a stock car. Modifications would have to be done, such as a roll cage and other safety features. Does anyone know what Nascar stands for, because i was sure the words stock car were in it? Whats stock about the cars those guys are racing today? I can't even tell the cars apart, they all look the same basically, except for a different grill. If they wanta slow these cars down i bet that stock car wouldn't go over 200. Oh and they would hafta run stock engines too. That would spar a nice little rivalry among the top three... and Toyota... PFFT!

What is stock about a showroom floor car that has to be modified with dozens of safety features, i.e.:

a roll cage
fire system
lashed parts under the hood (to keep them from flying off)
fuel cells/check valves
roof flaps
lexan windshields

etc.

yes, there needs to be a slower pace race so people would have to actually battle other drivers with real skill. No more of all these stupid rules or points systems. you run a stock car go out there and win. Just like the good ol' days. At least back in the day you could tell a **** ford from a cevy running on the field. Im not saying the new type of racing is bad, bu that some racing heritage should be brougt back.

I don't think they'll ever get rid of Cup cars, but what if the Busch Series were made to use stock-based cars? I'd love to see a class using stock-based cars. The racing would actually improve the technology and performance (even crashworthiness) of stock passenger cars. Where is the technology transfer today from racing to passenger cars?
The situation is a little ridiculous today, where you have chassis that are pretty much universal, bodywork that is very close except for some painted-on grilles and headlights, etc., and purpose-built engines. I mean, the Toyota Camry NASCAR car has to use a pushrod engine!

Stock cars from manufacturers aren't safe enough to race today. Certainly not at the speeds attained now, compared to the past. All race cars have become far more sophisticated than any mass produced automobile could ever be. The closets you can get to the kind of racing you seek is GT racing. These are actually cars you can buy and drive on the street, albeit terribly expensive cars, equipped for racing to protect the driver in the event of a crash. I disagree the era of the restrictor plate and fake stock cars is as much fun as the past. I think the COT concept is very disappointing. Having a field of identical cars means drivers will be more aggressive and possibly reckless vs. relying on innovation and new technology to give then an edge. I want to see real racing come back to the tracks, all of them From F1 to dirt.

No, I would not like seeing actual factory stock cars racing on the tracks. If I want that I will just take a lawn chair and go sit next to the closest on ramp next to a highway at rush hour.

The actual factory made cars would suck on the race tracks. They would not run any faster than about 105 mph, plus the tires on the car would shread to pieces in about 4 laps of speeds that high at half of the tracks. Also glass windows? Gimmie a break... Also the teams would not be able to adjust the track bar or anything like that to modify the car setups... not fun.

If you say... well let them put the roll cages in and all, then before you know it you will have them putting the actual windows they use now, and front air damns like the cars use now, ect. Then before you know it the cars would look about like they do now, just going alot slower, what would be cool about all that...?

I'll sum this up and just say, It would really be bad...

I hear ya but I can't entirely agree. I think it would be great if the cars actually looked like the real thing. Watching Ford race the FUSION the last few years drives me absolutely nuts. Like a FUSION would have a chance against both the CHARGER and the MONTE CARLO. I understand if the engines are supped up and the tires are changed and the glass windows are replaced but where is the car makers pride in the vehicles they produce and sell?
