Hi,

For the last 2 years, I have occasionally felt sharp pains in my eft chest muscle, sort of like misplaced heart-burn - on the outside of my ribcage, not inside.

3 weeks ago, i woke up with very bad pain in my entire chest - once again, not internally, but in the muscles. Over the last 3 weeks, the pain has migrated from the center to the sides.

Just today i noticed this hard painful vertical ridge (abouut 2 inches long) has formed above my left nipple. It is very sensitive and sore to the touch.

Does this sound more like cancer or more like a possible blood clot? The "ridge area" feels kind of like a really hard vein.

I doubt the muscle pain is from lymph nodes as the pain started in the middle of my chest and has never really been very tender in the lymph node area.

Normally cancer is always a painless lump in the begining however a cancer known as inflamatory cancer could be having pain from the begining itself. But I think in your case it is only some normal cyst or infection and the best thing would be to see a gynacologist immediately who would do mamography and you will know perfectly what it is.

You don't state your age, but if you are approaching middle age or are atleast 40, then you really should go get this checked out at the doctor.

The vertical ridge could be anything. It could be a cyst in one of your mammilary ducts (basically the ducts that channel breast milk to your nipple). A cyst is basically something that is filling up with liquid. It would feel more soft to the touch.

If this thing is very hard, then you should not ignore the possibility that it could be cancer. A cancerous mass in your breast will usually stay hard and stay in one place.

Another thing you can do to see for unusual signs is to bend your chest forward and have someone look at your breasts to see if there are any areas that look "indented" in. This is a sign that a cancer in your breast has sent attachments to the muscle underlying the breast, and for this reason that area of the breast won't fall down like the rest if you bend over.

Go get checked out.

If you can find someone who does thermography for breast exams, do that. Much less invasive and not painful compared to traditional mammography.

It might be 2 different problems. The muscle pain feeling could be related to lymph nodes. The other, I'm not prepared to say. But if anything you have is related to the 'c' word, it need not be a sentence.

Don't underestimate the importance of your diet.
