ok so i have been using dove mosturizing/volumanizing shampoo + conditioner for the past few years. when i started using it, it was great! no tangles, i had perfect hair!

but now i have started to notice that my hair has gotten totally gross! after i shampoo and then condition in the shower, i notice a lot of hair has come out (not hair loss problem, its because of the tangles). my hair has become unmanageable! after i get out of the shower after conditioning, its practically impossible to brush through!

i am totally through with dove....it has weighed my hair down so much. i can feel theres like build up and residue but here's where i'm stuck: i dont know how to get rid of it.

i dont know what shampoo/conditioners to start using.
i was thinking maybe pantene restoratives? time renewal? i've heard that people should use clear shampoos....they deep clean or something??

heres a little bit about my hair: it gets pretty oily at the scalp by day 2; i wash it every other day.

its medium length...smook and silky naturally...but i hate how it gets oily sometimes. so its definately not dry or anything..i dont have split ends or anything, never do. i just want a lightweight shampoo/conditioner that deep cleans. i also have mild dandruff...it wont go away! i use the neutrogena T-gel stuff and its not really helping..my scalp just starts to itch a few hours after showering.

please help with any suggestions of brands/advice. from professionals would help a LOT! thanks!

You just need a clarifying shampoo. Any shampoo will give you buildup over time.

I recommend Neutrogena clarifying shampoo. I use it once a week and it helps remove all the buildup from my regular shampoo and conditioner (Pantene), and also from my styling products. When I get done washing with it my hair really is squeaky clean. They also recommend you use Neutrogena Detangling moistruizer with the shampoo, but so far I haven't been able to find it, so I use a deep conditioner on that day, instead.

If you want to change shampoo and conditioner, you can. I highly recomment Pantene products. But before you throw away the Dove stuff, I recommend you try the Neutrogena shampoo. I have noticed my hair is behaving much better since I started using that once a week.

Good luck!

i recommend changing ur shampoos every now n again. i cant use that many shampoos bcuz the fragrances they use make my head itch and i have dark hair, so any little bit of flake shows up a lot. i have to admit my favorite shampoo is head and shoulders...ocean lift scent. i also like this shampoo i get at trader joes called natures gate. i get the lemongrass and sage and my head n hair feel great after, plus it looks great. if u can get hold of an avon representative theres a spray on/leave in conditioner that lightly conditions n doesnt weigh my hair down...i cant remember what its called right now, but last i knew it was the only spray on conditioner they carried.
one of the reasons ur shampoo may have stopped bein so great for u (aside from the build up thing that will happen) is that hair care, skin care and makeup etc. go through reformulations every now n then. our bodies begin to develop allergies or become resistant to some of the ingredients and the companies keep a log of the complaints they get. thats why our makeup is always changing! once they get enough complaints they know its time to start marketing their "new n improved" version of whatever it is they sell. so, maybe the reason it was different was just that...it was different.

I honestly haven't been able to tell much of a difference in shampoos and conditioners - whether they were expensive $20-$30 a bottle from the salon or $2 a bottle Suave. I think taking all the supplements you need is good for your entire body - including your hair. I also think it's important to try not to overstress it with drying, straightening (which doesn't sound like you have to do), etc. A healthy diet is good for your hair, too. But other than that - the products are all about the same.

I would use pantene. I have naturally curly hair and this is the best for my hair type. You are supposed to change your brand every few years, because you get "used" to it and because of the build up it causes. I would start with a deep cleanser, use it for a week maybe, and then go to pantene or something else as your everyday shampoo and conditioner. I wash my hair every day, or it would be nasty.

I know it's actually good for your hair to change shampoo every once in a while. I personally don't like dove I find it leaves my hair very dry and full of tangles too... I have a hair similar to yours and I love how pantene leaves it... I think the conditioner it's pretty good because it is really creamy...

Using the same shampoo over and over again will cause build up. Try switching shampoos periodically to prevent this from happening. Clear shampoos are good for deep cleaning. Experiment with different shampoos and conditioners to see what works best for your hair. Hair texture can also change with your bodies hormones levels and such. Hope this helps.

THE REASON THAT YOUR HAIR IS GETTING "GROSS" IS B/C OF THE BUILD UP OF THE SAME SHAMPOO AND CONDITIONER. THE BEST THING YOU CAN DO TO STRIP YOUR HAIR DOWN RIGHT NOW IS WASH IT IN DAWN DISH DETERGENT (NO JOKE) I HAVE TO EVER NOW AND AGAIN B/C MY HAIR GETS THE SAME WAY. AND A WAY TO PREVENT IT FROM HAPPENING AGAIN IS 1) DO NOT USE A SHAMPOO/ CONDITIONER COMBO. ALWAYS GET SEPARATE AND APPLY TO THE UNDER AND ENDS OF YOUR HAIR THE LEFT OVER YOU HAVE ON YOUR HANDS YOU CAN RUN THRU THE TOP 2) CHANGE SHAMPOOS EACH TIME YOU BUY A NEW BOTTLE. PICK 2 OR 3 SUCH AS SUAVE, V05, AND HERBAL ESSENCE AND ALTERNATE BETWEEN THEM.

I know this is going to sound kinda weird, but hear me out. This guy Chaz Dean has a salon in Hollywood and actresses kept coming to him asking him to make their hair beautiful again after it got wrecked making movies. He couldn't figure out the problem, so he started researching it. He finally decided that it's the chemicals that create the lather in shampoos that are stripping our hair of the oils that make it beautiful--in other words 'squeaky clean' is not a good thing!

So he started his own line, called Wen by Chaz Dean, and he calls the main product a cleansing conditioner. It replaces shampoo and conditioner and it doesn't lather. The products are made of natural ingredients like fig or cucumber, and they bring back the health of your hair. They are good for every hair type, and on his website he explains which ones are better for thin hair or dry hair or whatever.

I was hating my hair for many months because it looked like a huge frizz ball and nothing made it better until I used his products. After only one washing, my hair looked like it used to--healthy, shiny and healthy with no frizz! Now all my friends are using it, too, because they all wanted to know how my hair got so great.

Last time I checked you could find his products on ebay, on QVC and on his own website (google him). I promise you will be amazed at how great your hair looks and feels.

Hi,
Believe me or not I started to have biggg problems with my hair after I used Dove - the same problems that you explained and no other product from the market helped me!!
So I tried and old method and It worked wonders after the first use:

Use some olive oil, just a little warm, you massage all you hair with it and you put a wet warm towel over your hair and you live it for an hour. After that you wash your hair. After you have washed your hair, rinse it with vinegar (made from apples or wine) live it for 2-3 seconds and then rinse your hair with lots of water.
The vinegar acts like a hair balm and a hair-treatment at the same time. Your hair will become stronger and shinier, and if you have problems with your hair falling excessively the vinegar will also help.

It really works.
:)

I just started using new shampoo and conditioners. I was introduced to Arbonne Intelligence hair products. WOW what a great product. I will never buy anything else. Shines all day and feels weightless. Formulated in Switzerland.
