Out of 20 sites on the histroy of pit bulls, most follow the one I named. Did any of you saying they were bred to fight go read it. Bet not it is easyer to hold on to old beleives no matter who gets hurt, just as long as you do not have to think. In the case of tu he as no brain at all.

Because no one does research and it is easy to just believe whatever is heard. I suppose it doesn't help that the media sensationalizes the horror stories told about Pits.
I appreciate your efforts because if bans on Pits start being enforced everywhere it is only a matter of time before they start adding more breeds and no dog will be safe from BSL.

Actually, while the original bulldogs dogs weren't (originally) bred to fight dogs the American Pit Bull Terrier has been and still is.
But, there are a lot of people who don't know the origin of any of the pit bull type breeds and they assume that fighting dogs was their only purpose. Ignorance is the main problem I have with people who hate pit bulls. They don't know a thing about the breeds (or even that the term "pit bull" includes several different breeds, and anything that resembles a pit b ull type) except for what the media drills into their heads, but still hate them.
I would also just like to add that the origins of the original pit bulls is very arguable. Some people believe they were bred by crossing a bulldog and a terrier, others argue that the breed is one of the oldest (there are several ancient sculptures and paintings that show pit bull looking dogs) but almost went extinct and had to be crossed with other similar breeds. No one knows for sure.
Edited: I have read a lot of information on APBTs, more than most. I did not go read the site you posted because 1) I have heard/read it all before, and 2) Did you see the "pit bull" at the top left of their page?? What a poor, poor excuse of a pit bull, especially for a website giving information about them.
I'm sure the site does say the same thing several others do about the origin of pit bulls, but like I said, it is arguable and you can find that on just as many sites.
While they might not have initially been bred to fight other dogs, they have been for over the past 100 years.
The first sentence of the site you listed... "The history of the Pit Bull varies depending on the sources you refer to."

Actually, the American Pit Bull "breed" WAS undeniably bred for dog fighting. Up untill 1898 there was no breed just a "type" that was compiled of various bull and terrier breeds that were used from bull to rat baiting. Many breeders and organizations try to paint a rosier picture than what realy was.
edit:
Well, no matter how many sites that you find favorable to your story, the fact still is that there was no such thing as the BREED American Pit Bull Terrier untill 1898, before that what you call the true APBT did not exist, only the "type", there were many different bull and terrier types of dogs that were called "pit" dogs which were used in the DEVELOPMENT of the APBT back then. And when they were officially on the scene in 1898 their prime territory was DOG fighting (which were also done in PITS), not ratting. If you are going to say that the true breed started back in the 1700's or early 1800's then I guess that can also describe my Boston Terrier mix...after all that's where his history starts also...........but let's get real, that dosen't make my Boston a Pit Bull any more than it makes the APBT breed that EXACT same dog that it was way back there either.

Pits were bred for bull baiting, and fighting, but that was so long ago it shouldn't really matter. I mean Rat Terriers were bred to find and kill rats, but no one goes out a gets one of those when they're having a rodent infestation. Now the bad rap Pit Bulls get are because of negligent owners, and stupid morons who think it's fun to watch dogs tear each other to bits. Little does anyone know is that there are lots of dogs that were bred to fight like, Boston Terriers, Bull dogs, Mastiffs, Shar Peis, and the list goes on and on. Fighting of dogs and other animals these days are because of ignorant people who train their animals to be vicious instead of going out, and getting a job.

Pitbulls were used in DOG-fights since before the breed was registered in 1898.....that is over 100 years ago ! Do you know how many generations of dogs that is ? Unfortunately, the majority of those dogs were selectively bred for their strength, tenacity, and fierceness. It took over 100 years to breed that temperment into them.....it will take just as many years to breed it out. They are still actively used/ bred as fighting dogs today.....even though it is illegal........and most unsuspecting people ( no matter what their intention ) have no way of knowing if their puppy came from an active " fighting " line or from dogs who have a " gentler " history.

it was called "bull bating". they breed them to fight bulls. they would send in three of them to fight one bull in a pit hence the name "Pit Bull". The new term is "American Staffordshire Terrier" as the AKC doesn't recocnize "Pit Bull" any more due to laws that passed in California. The Cali laws stated that nobody can house or own a pit bull or else move or have it put down. The AKC changed the name to avoid animal cruelty.

The NAME pit bull means they were fought in PITS in Old England!! Yes they were and still are actively bred to fight! Watch Animal Precinct sometime. They are constantly busting pit bull fighting rings and rescuing severely wounded pit bulls. You really have your head in the denial sand if you believe that pit bulls were bred for anything else.
Low life losers prefer pit bulls. I see homeless every day in my town with them. Drug dealers and dog fighters etc. THey are irresponsible losers that dont fix them and so they are exploding in population. The only solution is to ban them and required fixing of the living ones.

I think it is barbaric too have animals to fight against each other for money. its just wrong. How would you like it if someone forced you to fight against someone with weapons? Say, like your best friend -_-
