I hear so many lies said about the military. One big one, is that if you join you will not get your college money. I am not out of the Army yet but I have friends who have gotten out and use their money for college. However, I do use tuition assistance from the Army. Like I said, that is just one of the lies I hear. There are many more.

So lying to make sure someone lives, makes it ok?? Guess what around 50,000 people died in car accidents last year. So I will tell people that cars suck and do not go as fast as car dealerships say they do.

I am a recruiter but not by choice. I do my job and ensure that future soldiers are prepared for the Army.

Out of plain ignorance. If someone doesn't want another person to join (for whatever reason) and they don't have any true information, they may make that stuff up. Or to degrade the integrity of the military as a whole. Whichever reason, isn't a good enough on to me.
Thank you for your service!

Well I guess the same reason why some recruiters lie. I was lucky and had a pretty good one, didn't tell me too many white lies. Some of my friends that joined got the lies piled on. It wasn't in writing so.... they didn't get what they said etc...
If the people listen to others about the military they are not ready to join anyways. They have to be prepared for what will happen and what might happen. If you fulfill your contract you will get the money. To that guy who said the military wouldn't give him the money, obviously the contract wasn't fulfilled yet.

What about the lies recruiters tell to get people to join the Army?!?! Doesn't that bother you? Or are you a recruiter yourself?
As a former Army wife with 2 brothers who also served, I can tell you that the lies are real. One of my brothers got totally screwed on the college money thing, and my husband and I had to resort to calling our Congressman about once every 6 months because of some crooked BS the finance BN was trying to pull.
Most people that think the military isn't lying to them just aren't smart enough to know better or simply aren't paying attention.

Because they have no integrity.
(Edited Feb 15, 2007): As far as I know they won't give you your edication benefits (i.e. the GI Bill) while you are currently serving. The reason is, is because they have (if I am correct and the asker can correct me) 100% tuition assistance while you are serving. That means the only money you would be spending on school is for your books. So yes you get education benefits while you are in the service AND when you get out. The only reason that a person would not recieve these kinds of benefits, and I believe it would only be the GI Bill, would be in the case of a dishonorable or other than honorable discharge.

Joining the military should be a free choice with all the truthful information, people should not lie even if they are afraid their friends or be it family will die.

Its nice to hear from another branch of the service. I'm U.S. Navy.
I'm due to ship out in August. To be truthfull, I dont know why people lie about the armed services, its like one big brainwashing episode. I think as long as you do your homework, ask around and make an informed descision, then your free to make up your own mind, rather then listening to someone elses version.

People are just ignorant about the military. They think once you go in, you die. Idiots. I admire what you're doing-unlike them, you want to better yourself and get an education. Congrats. Your not naive like those tards.lol.

That's actually not a lie, it happens. It happened to a friend of mine who came back from Iraq he wanted to go to college but they wouldn't give him his benefits so he went overseas again. But it won't happen to everyone like that.
