Does anyone use meditation to deal with chronic pain? What exactly do you do? I have done a little meditation before, but not much. Are there specific exercises you use, and if so, what are they? How frequently and for how long do you meditate, or how frequently is it reccomended? I am a college student with a currently undiagnosed disease that causes almost constant aching and pain. Meditation was suggested because they don't want to risk any interactions with the other meds they've got me on right now. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Pain is an incredible signal that something needs to be addresses. I have great success with EFT Emotional Freedom Technique and with Soothex. It works on many patients….I am very impressed and hope it will do for you what it does for many people with pain.

Yes, I use Tai Chi and Japanese White Light mediation. Every day I use it twice a day. I suffer from a Neuromuscular Disease Called, RSD(Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy) Most of the time it is referred to as by: Complex chronic Pain Syndrome. Most of the time, it is missed diagnosed. As thought of sometimes as Chronic Fatique syndrome. I went 18 months without proper diagnosis and treatment after sustaining an injury at work. I was shocked by over 450 volts of electricity. Find yourself a good neurologist and have cat scans, MRI's, PET Scans and a bone scan done to rule everything else out and to prove you may have the same thing I do. Unfortunately, it is not curable as with almost all other dystrophy's. If it is RSD, I wish you all the luck in the world.

How can you have a desease and still be undiagnosed. If it is undiagnosed, maybe it isn't a desease. What have you been tested for, what have they ruled out. Where is the pain, between your ears, between your toes. Give us a clue. You mention interactions with other meds. A PDR available at you library, your pharmacyst, and even your doctor explains and identifies all drug interactions, or is this from some illegal drug. Maybe that is what is undiagnosed. When you say "they don't want to risk", who is they?

You have to do way better than this if you expect to convince anyone who could actually help you.

I'm a chronic pain patient being treated at a pain clinic. I've had many procedures, including surgery for the implant of a spinal cord stimulator that sends little pulses (vibrations) down my legs to trick the brain into thinking there is no pain. Point here is that before I had the procedure, I had to see a Psychologist. He told me of a book dealing is relaxation techniques, called: "Managing Pain Before it Manages You", by M.A. Caudill, Ph.D, MD. I think this would be worth looking into for you. It has helped me greatly.

There is a book that teaches about muscles, pain and referred pain anywhere in the body. The principle is that the muscles get knots called trigger points which make the muscles tight that then press on nerves. It teaches how to get them to release which gets rid of the pain.
The Trigger Point Therapy Workbook by Davies.
I also use a chiropractor and massage therapist as needed.

I totally understand what you are experiencing. I also live with daily pain and can no longer take anything for it due to my severe ulcers.I have had some benefit from relaxation programs that focus on proper deep breathing. This has been something I listen to when I go to bed.
