These are the kinds of questions I wait for.... Bravo!
Empathy is the one thing we are all capable of but seldom indulge in. It's a seduction to dig in ones heels and fight (literally). Our global society can surely benefit if, regardless of belief, we all exercise compassion, acceptance and effective idea sharing. It is much different than what we normally do.
"Morality is of the highest importance--but for us, not for god."

An attitude of generosity would be of great benefit to our society. Why? It would help to end the hatred, and definitely the self-interest people have these days. We are to do unto others as we would want them to do to us. Do we want to be hated? No. Should we be so wrapped up in ourselves and what all we are doing to not show care and compassion for others, who may be going thru a hard time? No. The kind of people who are such loners need to consider finding a desert island to live on somewhere. Hatred is the total opposite of love. It is a lot harder sometimes to love than it is to hate, so aren't you a better person for loving, than for hating? The same goes for those that are interested only/mainly (to a bad level) in themselves. Sometimes it is harder to reach out to others than it is to care only for one self. Therefore, caring for others, makes you a better person, don't you think? I hope this helps answer your question. Take care.

As the other person here alludes to, our society does see great generosity. Yet, selfishness is a major problem in every corner of the world. It causes divorce, discord, dishonesty, etc. A greater spirit of generosity would have a very positive impact if many more showed it, especially those who think selfishly so often.

As long as ignorance is allowed to exist by intellectual and spiritual laziness, hatred and self-interest still remain rampant in the world.
The solution is with the acquirement of true knowledge provided in the Holy Books of the Messengers of God.
When we learn to love people for the sake of God, we can perform it with generosity, tolerance, patience....

Can anyone ask a question like that after 9/11? Have you ever seen an outpouring of more charity and concern ever in your life? I'm in my 50's and have never seen anything like it. The hatred and self interest makes the news because they are noisy. The vast majority is quietly kind.
