Well Bangers and Mash is a traditional English meal and Shepherd's Pie is a traditional Scottish (and probably northern English) meal so they're not Irish! They're also not that old - Shepherd's pie is at best 18th centuary and Bangers and Mash is probably later than that.
Dublin Coddle is a traditional Irish meal.
As for my favourite food that my mum makes, it was macaroni cheese - home made, none of this processed nonsense!

As far as my mother's cooking is concerned, my favourite meal from her is a take-away! Over-boiled, over-cooked, over-spiced and over-riced. Thanks, but I'd rather cook something myself!
As far as Irish traditional fare is concerned, I'd definitely have Colcannon in there, and some really fresh seafood - if I were on the coast, obviously. I wouldn't even consider corned beef as being an Irish delicacy!

Hello, I am afraid I am too old now for a mum to be at the range cooking up all kinds of good Irish food, which consisted of all the usual foods, most of which you have mentioned in your question, but there are exceptions, such as Brack loaf, very fruity and best served hot with home made butter, and Soda Bread served the same way, made with buttermilk, yukk! I never could take to that stuff, but my Da used to drink it ' double yukk!' So what's left, I love to go into 'Supermacs', ( A BIT LIKE MCDONALDS, BUT VERY Irish, outlets everywhere in the country) when I am at home on one of my 2 annual visits to see my family in Ireland, and I love the curry-chips they serve and the odd burger too, and we are told it is all Irish produce on the packaging, and then I like to enjoy a HB Golly bar, starngely very white and sweet Ice cream. Mmmmmm delicious, then I am fed for a whole day, you have to watch your weight on food intake such as these, but very nice all the same, and in Modern day Ireland I would call this kind of food Traditional now...... Lovely.................bye Now Tony M

My favourite of my mother's dishes is her lamb stew with capers.
I'm Canadian (13th generation) with some Irish ancestory. Maybe this is an old family recipe from the old country?
