I was just curious.

I've been having back pain recently and I dont really know the cause. Is it a good idea do get a massage without looking into a cause of the back pain? I just dont want to make anything worse.

There is a book that teaches about muscles, pain and referred pain anywhere in the body. The principle is that the muscles get knots called trigger points which make the muscles tight that then press on nerves. It teaches how to get them to release which gets rid of the pain.
The Trigger Point Therapy Workbook by Davies.
I also use a chiropractor and massage therapist as needed.

A massage will help it if its muscles. You will know the minute you get off that table if that is the right thing for you.

Drink at least 64 ounces of water before getting a massage and after to flush out your system. Also ask for a referral to a chiropractor in your area and that will help as well. They specialize in spinal nerves and the bones around them. I go weekly and "Feel" it when I don't. Its amazing for me.

For right now lay on your side or belly and put a COLD pack on it, to help with the pain. Good luck. "NO" heat until we know if it is an injury. The massage therapist and doctor will use it to get blood to the area so they can work the muscles. IF you do it, then the blood will just "pool" in that area and make it worse.

Lay on the floor, on your back and rest your feet UP a wall. You will make an L shape with your body. That will take the pressure off the back. It helps a lot. Even if you just put you feet up on a sofa and lay flat on the floor, it helps.

I have terrible back pains for the following "PMS-cramping", constipation, intestinal gas, sitting too long (muscles tight) or driving to long (entire right side hurts).

Okay if you still hurt after all that, please see a medical doctor it could be kidney stones or spinal nerves, too many things it might be, so let the professional assist you to a healthier back.

Best wishes.

Hun if it were me I would go to the dr. and find out what is causing the back pain before I got the massage. You know its better to be safe than sorry.

i dont see what harm a simple back massage owuld do as long as you arent going to a chiropractor..maybe the massage will help..if not see a dr it could be something for a chiro but it could also be a kidney infection or something along that line

You should probably get checked out by your Dr. first. Pain is your body's way of telling you something is wrong, you should listen to it.
