There are so many small dogs out there, it really depends what you are looking for... I would honestly recommend going to a shelter and adopting a small dog that catches your interest, but if you want a purebred dog you can look on: http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/phstoysmalldogs.htm
You can browse the thumbnails of different breeds (I got you the link to the small dogs) and pick some dogs that interest you and get more information on their characteristics/health problems.

If you find a dog that interests you, check on http://www.petfinder.com/ and see if there are any rescue groups/shelters in your area that have the breed your looking for.

A Bichon Frise! we've one called Poppy and they are stunning! The stay small and are quiet elementary to bathroom prepare. they're many times left on my own for a even as. they could manage to stay in a small position yet might want to need known walks. they don't have a tendency to chase birds and different pets, so that's ok! i wish I Helped! sturdy success on your new dogs! I have a Jack Russell, and a Weenie dog mix..... someone told me that Jack Russells are good dogs..... but I'm fairly certain that mine is the antichrist. My weenie mix is a wonderful pound puppy that I actually adopted from pets inc. to keep the antichrist company when she went through her little "doggy-depression" when me and 'her daddy' split up...... Now five years later, I'm sure she's almost perfected her plan to take over the world.....
When it comes to large, or small dogs.... I would always recommend a pound puppy...... Mix breeds are almost always "good dogs", and they all deserve a shot at a good, loving home!

well, i have two small dogs right now. pepper and juicy fruit. peppers a 4 year old brown and black min pin and juicy fruits a 3 year old dapple daschund hound. juicy fruit is the hardes little guy to house train and peppers real good about that, but either way i wouldnt give them up for nothing!!
