Jesus spoke a lot about not stressing about the future, and having faith that good things come as a reward to those who asked and were deserving.
Consider the Magpies outside my house. They come and ask for food, and we give it to them. However, we cannot suppy their entire diet, so they still need to look for themselves. And, I am sure that if they attacked us, we would not feed them. But they are afraid to recieve the bread from us, just like we are afraid to recieving things diretly from God.
Bread is an euphamism for what we need to live... but that it is our Daily bread is more significant. We are being encouraged not to live in fear (a hard thing to do).

Do you know how the children of Israel were fed while they wandered in the wilderness? God fed them manna. The word manna meant "what is it?" because that's what they asked when they first saw it. It was probably similar to a small round cracker. We are not sure, but it was small. They would have to gather it every morning because it only lasted for a day "Give us this day our daily bread - Matthew 6:11". This was a great sign of God's presence with them and how he provided for them.
One can also apply that to life today by knowing that God is going to provide what you need today.

Food... the formula, "daily bread," does not mean a store room full, but just what is needed TODAY. The object of the teaching is total dependence on God.

Bread - you know, you grind up grass seed (wheat, oats, etc.) add water, perhaps some oil/shortening, maybe a pinch of salt, yeast optional (sans yeast = unleavened) and bake.
Bread.
But notice how you'll get answers with all kinds of interpretations for which there is absolutely no basis.
Of course the whole story of Jesus reciting "the lord's prayer" is pure fabrication created decades after Jesus purportedly lived.

Bread in Jesus' time was a dietary staple. It is used in context of having God's word be a staple of your life. His words nourish you spiritually as much as the actual food does the body.

WE ARE TO PRAY THAT OUR DAILY NEEDS ARE MET. WHEN MOSES WAS IN THE DESERT WITH THE ISRAELITES, THEY RECEIVED MANNA WHICH THEY ATE. MANNA MEANS LITERALLY, WHAT IS IT. WHITE FLAKES FELL FROM THE SKY EVERY DAY BUT THE SABBATH. GOD PROVIDED THEIR DAILY BREAD. THEY WERE NOT TO STORE IT OVER FOR THE NEXT DAY, EXCEPT THE DAY BEFORE THE SABBATH. THEY WERE BEING TAUGHT TO BE FAITHFUL AND TRUST THAT GOD WOULD PROVIDE FOR THEIR BASIC NEEDS. I BELIEVE JESUS WAS REMINDING US TO RELY ON GOD TO TAKE CARE OF OUR NEEDS FOR THIS DAY. HE WILL ALSO PROVIDE FOR OUR NEEDS TOMORROW.
