1. I lived with anxiety for about 10 years, it can be a horrible affliction.
2. Theres nothing wrong with being shy or quiet. Don't be so hard on yourself.
3. Often people try to hard to think of something to say. Converstaion can be started with someone easily by finding a common ground with that person.... Perhaps its the weather or the fact you are both in an elevator or are waiting for something.
4. It is common to be nervous in oral presentations. The only way to get over it is practice and preparation.
5. Social situations... Big crowds boths millions of people. YOu are not alone and that is ok that you don't like them.
6. Friends: There are 2 types of people, Introverts and extroverts.
Introverts are people that have only one or 2 close friends. Its normal and you are ok.
7. Sure it all depends on the situation. I love socializing in small engagements but large ones make me feel out of control and uncomfortable. Again...you are ok...normal.
8. Do you need medication? Probably not. You need to be tested by a psychologist but I think the test would come back that you are normal. At most I would recommend a little atavan or some lorazapam to take the edge off your anxiety if it starts getting too much.

I am 16 and have been on zoloft for over a year. I suffered from terrible anxiety and panic attacks for my whole life, and it escalated to a point where I really needed help. Zoloft has been a lifesaver. Mind you, I do see a cognitive behavioral therpist and a psychiatrist with whom I talk to about my anxiety and about how the medication is working. A medication was a last resort, but it has worked like a charm. I have had no negative side affects from the zoloft.

You need to ask for an appointment with the school counselor, where you will ask to receive psychologist services to help you with the anxiety and stress you are feeling. Medication is not always the answer. It is more an tool to help you work through the problem in counseling.
Some of what you are experiencing is normal adolescent anxiety. Hopefully you have a decent relationship with one of your parents or a close adult relative that you can openly discuss your valid concerns.
BTW it is okay to be a quiet person who has only a few close friends. Quality counts more than quantity in friendships.

I have been on and off zoloft for the last 4 years. It took a few weeks and lots of tests to find out I was depressed I couldent function in the outside world, I dont like taking pills but there wasent anything else that would work for me. Last visit to Dr I was told I would have to be on pills for at least 3 years thats a long time. Zoloft is great for me , given a choice tho I would try something less invasive for someone as young as you pills in a growing bodys not good

I don't think zoloft is the way to go. Thats an antidepressant it sounds like you need an anti-anxiety drug. Or even some therapy itself could help. It's always better to try to overcome it without drugs. But I would suggest ativan, its a good anti anxiety drug that doesnt make you too out of it.

you should definately seek psychiatric help first... however, i am 25 and have been taking zoloft for about 3 months now, and felt a big difference within 3 hourse of taking the first pill... but it sounds as if you have a big anxiety issue for which different medication is perscribed... probably not good for someone your age and in school, as they can make you drowsy, forgetful, and are extremely addictive... i would definately talk to your doctor and seek counselling...

Definitely talk to your doctor. Especially if you think you are withdrawing from certain situations due to anxiety. There are so many anti anxiety meds out there and sometimes it takes a while to find the right one for you.

You don't need to take anything for it. Just try to talk to people. I know 16 is a very hard age for most people but don't be shy just be yourself talk to people a great conversation starter would be complementing someone. Just start by saying something nice to someone and they will talk to you don't go to therapy or anything.
