pumpkin or pumpkin pie filling? something else?

You want to use the straight canned pumpkin - the pie filling has too much sugar and spices in it.

The problem will be getting in the cat. They may not want to eat it if it is in food which of course has to be canned food. Strangely the pumpkin can work for both constipation and diarrhea.

I hope you will try to discover why your cat is constipated instead of just treating a symptom. Is the cat habitually constipated or has it just been for a few days? Is it an old cat or a young one? What is the cat's diet - cat's need moisture and fat to process their waste - a dry food diet could be depriving the cat of those important ingredients.

I think it may be something worth consulting with a vet about. So don't neglect that possibility.

pumkin supposidly..canned...but my cat hated it. I gave him a good amount of butter instead..and it works..also you can sprinkle metamucile in his food..not too much though..also my vet told me to give him colace..you can find it in the drug store..it's for humans, but one capsule is ok. it's alittle blue liquid filled capsule. If you want to check on any of these answers on the board you can always call your vet..the staff are knowledgable over the phones. Good luck..it cost me 500.00 for an exray and test done for them to tell me my cat was full o poo!!! Also canned cat food provides alot of the water that cats need to pass their stools, make sure he doesnt eat all dry.

Petromalt should help, just don't overdo it or it will cause diarrhea.
How long has the cat been plugged up? You may need to take it to the vet for an enema if the Petromalt doesn't help.
