Can anyone recommend a photo editing software package that very easily removes skin blemishes via use of an eraser-like tool for that purposes?

The best program for this specific purpose is Corel Paintshop Pro XI, available at http://www.corel.com. You can get a free trial to try it out. There is actually a filter for this, and it works great. If you decide to buy it, you can get it for less than $100, which is a great price.

There are lots of software in the market.

The best one is Adobe Photoshop CS or 8.

You can also use Microsoft Office Picture Manager

Paintshop Pro and Photoshop both have tools that can do that. I think you can still download a trial version of PSP. I believe Corel now owns PSP. Just search fro Paintshop Pro.
