I have a HP Pavilion dv8000 lap top, it's only a few months old, but the Norton Anti Virus Software it came installed with has expired. I get a message stating 1 item is affecting my computer. IfI click on FIX now, it says my subscription has expired and for me to renew it I have to purchase or download and there is a charge. Does anyone know where I can Download this for Free?

Avast is one of the best programs I've EVER found and it's 100% free!!!! I do IT work and that's what all my companies use...home use is free, but company use isn't...So for yours It'll be free....but it's a great program! I've seen it grab virus' that Norton and mcafee couldn't detect. and the updates can be set to automatic, so u don't have to worry about that.

Just personal opinion of course. I use Avast , I have also got superantispyware and Malwarebytes. I recently changed to Comodo firewall which seems fine and I seem to boot up quicker. They are all free for personal use and I have had no trouble with Viruses Trojans Hackers etc. I also use Windows Defender from the Microsoft site. It is safe to use two anti-spy products but never use more than one A/V as it can cause conflicts. You should run A/V and anti spy weekly. You will have to find the appropriate links as i am now getting violations each time I post a link. Seems like I have a troll.

The bet one I've used, and one that uses the least amount of memory is Ävast V4.7 - it also detects and cleans viruses and trojans that others like AVG don't find.

Hope that helps.

Also, Nortons is very memory hungry and slows your computer down heaps.

I'm not sure if you can get Norton for free legally, but there is an alternative that seems to be popular: AVG.

i would download avg free edition and spybot search and destroy just type it into google but DO NOT download just some random program alot of them have viruses imbedded in them they tell you that you have viruses but then you have to pay to remove them and you cannot unistall them so research a program before installing it
