Stirring things is also dependent on drag forces.

Drag is friction, it is the force which resists motion in any environment that is not a vacuum. In Chemical Engineering one encounters drag most often as resistance in piping systems. You have to take this into account when calculating pump size, flows and pressures. Simply put a long narrow pipe with many bends will not allow the flow, require more pressure and thus a bigger pump than a large diameter straight pipe. There are programs for figuring resistance, pressures, flows, shock loss, etc.
