My 9 m/o Pomeranian, named Princess.. was taking her usual nap (just 30 minutes ago). As soon as she got up, she started hopping in three legs. I don't understand how she hurt her leg. What can I do to see if she's okay? Has she broken or fractured it? It's obviously to late to go see a Vet.

one explanation is that she has slip stiffles (loose knees). it can be a problem in Toy breeds as well as others . You just tend to see it more in the Toys. if she is really small or has fine bones it doesn't help. either way, if she is not crying in pain, she can wait till the next day to see a Vet. The knee just needs to be put back in the socket. If it only happens once, there isn't much to do except get some exercises from your Vet to help strengthen her leg. If it happens over and over, the best bet is surgery to tighten up the tendon. That way it's done and over with. Good Luck

Slightly squeeze her foot, then her ankle, then her hip and see if she is sensitive to any particular place. Sometimes my Pom will play and stretch a muscle and it doesn't show up till she lays still for awhile and then it freezes up and starts to hurt, It gets better over about a 3 day period. Do not let her jump off any furntiure etc. as she may injure it more. If not better in three days, take to vet for an Xray

My Maltese used to do the same thing. The vet examined her and said she had a displaced knee (although in a more medical term). They wanted a surgery on her, but I refuse , she was fine. Once she gets up and starts limping, examine her legs and joints, sometimes we can feel when it is out of place and pop it back in with no pain to the dog. They only recommend surgery if you plan to breed, cause of the extra strain on the joints.

if she was sleeping on the couch or a high bed when she jumped down she could have hurt it, i know cause i have a chihuahua that does it all the time, the vet says try to keep him off high things but thats hard to do, i would take her in for a xray in the morning if she is not better or if shes not in much pain give it a few days it could just be a sprain

LOL-- my silky terrier does that all the time. Her foot's asleep, or she's she just slept on it wrong. After a while she'll be fine. If she continues to gimp around for more than a couple of hours, take her to the vet, but I wouldn't worry about it. Happens to people, and it happens to dogs, too.

1.luxating patella - (knee goes out of place), these usually pop back into place.
2. an ant or other insect bite can give 1/8 antihistamine- these bites can be very painful
3. A pull or strain or slept on leg in weird way causing pain
If it continus past tonight then take to vet.

Maybe she slept on it wrong and it's just asleep. Keep an eye on it and call the vet in the morning.

If she keeps doing it wait till morning and call your vet but if she is not doing it anymore maybe she slept wrong and just like us it fell asleep and is tingling.
