Using a Planimeter?

I need to learn how to use a planimeter in a very short time (by next week). Does anyone know the basics for using and calculating with a planimeter?

I only know that you run the pointer around the drawing clockwise and when you get back to the start you can read off the square inches traced. Then convert depending on the scale of the drawing. Once you get it, it's easy.
