sorry to say...but pet store.....he's a pembroke welsh corgi and just amazing!
but in the past i've gotten dogs/puppies from an ad in the newspaper, neighbors, humane society, etc.
i just fell in love with this corgi at my local pet store, he spent five weeks there before i broke down and bought him. i felt that soeone better before he ended up gowing up in a kennel.....he's been so great and i'm in love with the breed...and he's the cutest corgi i have ever seen!!
oh yeah, i know the breeder that he came from, and they are actually pretty decent, they just raise corgi's and they only go locally.
i probably paid way too much for him, nut he's worth it to me, and he deserved a home!

One of the best dogs I ever got was from the Animal Shelter.
I had always heard that they are so appreciative of the good home they receive when adopted. Now I am a believer.
Funny how it works, but all dogs are perfect for you when they live in your home for a short time and smother you in kisses. Just choose a dog that is not too hyper if you live somewhere that you cannot give it the exercise it needs.
Give a pooch a second chance at life and you both will be so happy. My son adopted two mixed breed puppies from the pound....

I just want to say thank you so much for adopting!!
It is great that you are waiting until you find the ideal mixed breed for you, as there are so many that need loving homes. You just have to find that one that fits with you:)
I have always gotten my dogs from professional breeders with the intent that my dogs would go on to show, even if they never do.
I of course have also rescued as I work with a working dog rescue. My Border Collie mix, Lucca, was a Hurricane Katrina rescue girl straight from Mississippi from September 2005.
In my opinion, there are only two ways to acquire a dog: Rescue, and if that falls through, go find your perfect purebred dog from a fantastic breeder.

I have a Border Colllie/spaniel mix which I rescued from a shelter at 9 months old . He's going to be 12 soon...and is just a great dog.
I also have a Golden Retreiver/Chow Chow mix which i rescued directly from her abusive owner at the age of 4 1/2 months. Took a while to convince him to sell her to me....then he acted as if he did me a favor....when I just wanted to save the dog from the beatings and living in her own waste, not being fed, ect.
She will be 8 soon, and is also an awesome dog.
Rescue dogs rule!

Our last three dogs and my cat were all Rescues. Two from a Humane Society (the cat, and a Schipperke/Poodle mix), one direct from the Pound (senior Mini Schnauzer whose people dumped her at age 11), and our current Mini Schnauzer was an owner surrender - her people were trying to get her into Rescue due to a catastrophic change their life situation, but the Rescue groups in the area were full.
Given a choice, I will adopt through rescue groups rather than direct from the pound - groups usually keep the animals in a foster home situation, so there is some idea of their temperament. They are also usually vetted and spayed/neutered at the time of adoption. Plus it saves two lives - the one that we adopt, and the one that they can then pull from the animal shelter because there's a place (and funds!) available in their foster system.

We found ours on Petfinder.com 2 years ago.
Our Shepherd/Lab mix is quite the gentleman...excellent manners, playful, protective, and fun. He'll be 5 in April.
Our Basset/Springer mix is a clown. He's 3 but still acts like a pup. He loves to sing and dance, as many bassets do.
Both were hardluck cases and we couldn't be more pleased. They love us and each other so much. My kids adore them and appreciate them every day.
We adopted these two after our beagle died (she was 14 years old.) She, too, was adopted from a shelter at age 3.
You're smart to wait for the "best-fit". You'll be glad you did.
What a lucky dog!

HI
I have a lhasa apso x cocker spaniel called Honey and she is 14 years old.
I am a vet tech and i adopted her from a client who was no longer able to keep her. She was orginally used as a puppy breeding machine and kept in a cage for 6 years straight only let out to mate. She was taken by the RSPCA (australia), desexed and rehomed.
She is absolutely beautiful and its funny ever since the first time her previous owner bought her into the surgery I had a thing for her and always made sure I was there when she came in - maybe i knew she would one day live with me.

I have a golden retriever that I got from a breeder, however your plan of adopting a dog from a shelter sounds like a good idea. You can "shop around" to find a dog you think you will like, and you will be able to provide a good home for a dog that wouldnt have one otherwise

My dog was from a shelter and the cats were coyote bait on a farm in upstate NY... you could try www.petfinder.com if you are looking for specific breeds~ you might not find a purebred but maybe a mix with one that you want. Also, with a shelter sometimes you can get deals on vaccines and lowcost spaying and neutering. Take your time, you're doing it the right way... Good Luck!!!

I have 2 dogs.
One is a toy poodle, she came from the local animal shelter.
She was abandoned when her owners moved away.
The neighbors called and reported that someone moved away and left their dog.
She is actually a very pretty poodle now. But when I found her at the pound she looked so bad.She was so matted that you couldnt see her face..we've had her for six years now.
Second one is a rotti/chow mix. He was a stray or drop off in our neighborhood that we took in. He was about six months old.We have had him for 12 years now.
They are BOTH great dogs!
Good luck! Hope you find the perfect match!
