Fruit picking is an easy job to get but usually far from the big cities.
In the big cities get your name down at as many temporary work placement agencies and phone them constantly until they get you a job. They will be so sick and tired of you phoning, that they will find you a job to stop you from phoning. Worked for me.

roadhouse work, or petrol stations. Hotel work is also bountiful. There are a lot of online resourses for people on working holidays. some of the hostels have associated employment agencies specifically for travellers. If you do a google search and type in Work for Backpackers in australia you will get a heap if info come up.

Hi All these areas are good for backpackers. MOst of them find you job. We require brick labourers up North plus people that work in pubs. The seasons are Dec to Feb summer but from Sydney and Perth in West Aust the summers last until about end of April. South of those cities it is a bit coolet. Winter sets in about May to September. However the far north of Australia like Broome West Aust, Darwin which is a must as the state government put on free concert for the whole state and bring the best bands from Australia wide. It is free, Dont go to Kakadu National Park but Litchfield it 10 times better.. North Queensland it is like summer and spring. The best places are starting with Qld Cairns, Mackay Sunshine Coast, Gold Coast and all the tropical islands off it. It has the barrier reef too. New South Wales Byron Bay Blues Festival, Tamworth Country Music Festival and all along the coast. Sydney is a rat race it huge like Chigago and be carefyl travelling West of Sydney hardly anybody speaks english. BLue Mountains are nice in NSW near Penrith. Melbourne is good very historical and nice country scences. Snow sking in Winter along with Thredbo areas. See the the net.
Canberra out capital is like leggo land and freezing. Adelaide is the city of churches it pretty and the German town of Hahndoff is really nice along with their Barossa Valley. Hobart is Capital of Tasmania it very scenic and absolutely beautiful with its historic buildings. You need a week at the least there,. Perth capital West Australia has nice beaches, KIngs Park for views an excellent zoo with gardens. Big Swan River for scenic tours plus Fremantle for history. excellent pretty towns are Mandurah, Bunbury, Busselton, Margaret River, Warpole Denmark and Albany a town which Princess Diannas relatives had a lot to do with the discovery. All those towns follow one anothe but inland is Pemberton for third largest trees in the world. There is one tree with a house on it. If you are looking at working anywhere where alcohol is served you will need a Responsible Service of Alcohol certificate. If you are working in a pub or club that has poker machines you will need a gaming certificate as well. There are various organisations offering the course which usually takes one day. Type Responsible Service of Alcohol Certificate into your favourite search engine to find out more.
