The guy I'm asking about has said in the past the way he deals with things he can't deal with is by not dealing with them. So how common is this? What is so difficult? Not wanting to hurt a girl's feelings or not wanting to acknowledge they do have feelings for a girl? Something along those lines?

Help us understand your silence.

1. Fear of saying the wrong thing. Once the words are out of your mouth, there's no going back.
2. Just plain not knowing what to say.
3. Not knowing how we really feel about something, much less what to say about it.
4. Fear of your reaction to what we're thinking/feeling.
5. There's something we don't want to reveal.
6. There's something we're not sure if we want to tell you or not.
7. We know what we're thinking/feeling, but don't know how to put it into words in a way that won't get us into the doghouse (see #1).

Ive told many people you can find that answer if you read the book "Men are from mars women are from Venus" you will absolutely be amazed at how it talks about this same subject and tells you why there is a difference between how men think and how women think.Make sure you let your friend read it also, its one of the best ways to understand the opposite sex believe me.Good luck to you.

that is a 5 trillion dollar question that is not the easiest to answer....because it is different in every person..it sometimes has to do with the way that they were brought up in the ways that they handle differnt things..somethings they can talk about and some they cannot..example emotions...some can express themselfs from how they where shown in the homes when they young and even then it take alot of time and patience.

i think not communicating can be a factor later on in your relationship .. if you are the type of person that likes to communicate and he just doesn't deal with things you will eventually burst out and say something.. But on the other hand if you care about him than you will try to work it out

We just don’t feel the need to talk for three hours strait about a problem that you can just ignore instead. My sister was on the phone for two and a half hours once talking to her friend about this guy in history class that smiled at her. Once. Not normal, I’m telling you. At least to guys it isn’t.

it's not uncommon. it could be from anything really.. Social Anxiety perhaps. some people can't or don't want to admit that they can have feelings towards someone else. not wanting to get hurt, not wanting to hurt a girl... or just not ready to deal with reality.
Fear of the unknown.

Depends on what situation when u say "shut down". If arguments, then it's to stop before it explodes. Sometimes, it's cause we don't wanna hurt the girl. For me, am kinda straight forward and upfront and wld love my partner to be the same. That way i don't have to speculate or make assumptions, same goes for her.

non communication means anger, hurt, embarassement or plain ole tired of the subject. But he should give in about it sooner or later. Be patient for answers. Let him know you are ready when ever he is to tell you his feelings on something. Or just beat it out of him. lol

i think all human beings are capable of letting go and talking about their feelings but for some people it takes a great deal of trust in the other person to open up.
i think alot of men are deep thinkers and i also think alot of men are simple thinkers and dont get the release that us woman get from talking about our feelings.
my boyfriend of 2 years doesnt talk about how he feels, but has no problem telling me how i should feel.
if he still isnt talking to you on an emotional level when your instinks tell you its time, then he probably isnt going to.
always remember you cant help anyone unless they are asking you to. dont let his moods bring you down.

i think sometimes in a way, and no offense guys, they are embarrassed. they dont like to admit this but they do get embarrassed and some may think its a way of showing weakness. just watch the guys around u and u'll see what i mean. guys dont want us to think they are weak. hope this helps even tho im female.
