The Bible says that without the shedding of blood, there is no remission of sin. The OT sacrifices of lambs pointed to the final sacrifice of The Lamb of God. Because of the disobedience of one, the first Adam, sin came into the world, and death because of sin. Therefore, by the Last Adam, Jesus, we were freed from the sting of death. Through Him, all can live.

The ultimate thing about the death of Jesus was that he was raised on the third day, alive. Why? In doing this, Jesus defeats death, which is what Satan brought to the world when he got Eve to eat the forbidden fruit. Had Adam and Eve not sinned, they would not have been subject to die. They did though, sin came into the world, and every generation after that had the curse of death upon them. Everything about Jesus' life, right up to exactly how he would die, was prophesied in the Old Testament so that when he was on earth, he could be recognized as the Messiah. So, because he died and took our sins, yes, on the cross right before he dies he says "father why have you forsaken me", that is the only moment that he separated from the father and is taking the punishment of death for all who had and will sin. So, our debt is paid by him, he gives it to us as a gift IF we make the choice to accept it. Because he was raised from the dead to fully live again, he defeats death, which, when we die this earthly life, it is only the beginning of living eternity alive with God, as he will also raise us up as well. Everyone will get eternity, its a matter of where you will spend it. There are only two choices. If you are not with God through Jesus, then you are against.

Jesus isn't saving the human race because the human race for the most part rejects him. He saves people one at a time. Each person is called on their own by becoming aware of their sin and the need for something to be done about it, and by the hearing of the gospel, the good news that God was in Christ reconciling us to himself. The hearing of the gospel produces faith. Our sin affects us because if there is a God then our sin makes us too sinful to be around him, and if he is a holy God, then our sin means that we deserve to be in hell. But Jesus died for the ungodly, and when we believe in him we are saved. Our sin no longer has dominion over us, and we have the assurance of being with God in heaven for all eternity.

It didn't save anybody from anything because it never happened. It's just a myth--you know, like Hercules slaying the Hydra. Just because people say that something is true, doesn't mean you have to believe it. How can someone else dying save YOU from anything, anyway? If Jesus' death happened, so what? Obviously, nothing has changed. And you know what's the real kicker? Jesus didn't really sacrifice ANYTHING! It's true, absolutely nothing was sacrificed, especially not his life. Remember, according to the myth, Jesus rose from the dead and floated away to heaven like a big, savior-shaped balloon. If he got his life BACK, then obviously it could not have been SACRIFICED. If you sacrifice something, you don't get it back. What a silly myth, huh?

The way it use to be- in the BCs- was that if you wanted to approach God, you needed a sacrifice. They were very specific about this. Kinda like how much time and effort you spent making your sacrifice equaled your devotion to God. All the bad stuff you did got put on that dead animal and carried up to God in smoke and blood.
But then Jesus came. He was perfect and innocent, pure and spotless- like an animal used to sacrifice to God of old. The act of crucifixion is like the act of burning the animal as sacrifice. All the bad stuff we do was put on the back of Christ and sent up to His Father in the form of His blood.
Christ is the LIVING sacrifice. Meaning, we don't have to go through all the animals and Christ doesn't have to die over and over again. It's good forever. We can approach God now free and clear!

God expects perfection from anyone He allows into Heaven. But humans aren't perfect. So God used a law involving a kinsman redeemer: a rich relative was allowed to buy back a property that had been lost by a poor person. Jesus, rich in Eternal Life, was able to buy our lives back after our sins lost them. He's the only one who ever could. THAT's how rich He is!

It's not to hard to understand when you know, that God's capacity to love, far out does love that any human being's could, ever even imagine , he willing died on a cross, so we wouldn't have to die in our sins, if we repent an turn from our sins, see long ago man fell from God's grace, when Adam sinned against God, and God will not force his children, to love and obey him,but he made a way for us through, his son Jesus who willing laid down his life for us . animals were sacrificed, since the being as atonement for sins. but it took the blood of the only son of God,to save all of mankind that believes on his name, an anyone that believes in him shall be saved.

None of these answers make any sense at all. OK, I get it. It was a sacrifice. That still doesn't explain why he had to do it. How does dying do anything? By getting tortured, somehow the sins of humanity are forgiven. It makes no sense.
