I think you mean the check was paid TO him BY someone else. He needs to sign the back and write "pay to" on it and put your name. It would be best if he goes to the bank with you..

But BEWARE that if the person who wrote the check has no funds to back up the check it will be reversed out of your account.

More than likely no. Not unless your friend were to sign the check over to you WITH you at the bank. Your friend would have better luck cashing it and giving it to you that way.

yes but it has to be endorsed by your friend to you and then your bank will hold it to ensure it clears. I believe its called a 3rd party check and banks hold you liable for fees.

You both should go to the bank where this check is drawn on, he can cash it using his ID and a fingerprint maybe they will charge a small fee. He endorses this check payable to him, he takes all liability and you get cash in your hand.

He has to sign to check with his name and write payable to your name. You have to sign it. I would take it to the bank that it was drawn on after all of the signatures and cash it, then deposit the cash into my bank Better safe than sorry.

Dont take it. Most places wont take it...but if they do and it bounces it's on your account, therefore it becomes your problem.
Tell your friend you will go to the bank with him and he can cash it and pay you while you are there.
