There are many shampoos. However I can;t tell you which ones too use because not a "African" hair is the same, though I do have the same problems with my hair at times. There are different textures. However according to my experiences you should not use H&S or Pantene. Pantene basically soaked the moisture out of my hair and Head & Shoulders is loaded with SLS. That is one tip I can give you is to avoid SLS(Sodium Laruyth Sulfate). Sorry for my spelling. And also ALS. Black hair is really gentle and delicate so those chemicals won't help. There are some suggestions I can give you.

Creme of Nature
Carol's Daughter
Or you could No Poo.

But maybe the problem isn't shampoo. It could be conditioners and products. Try to avoid mineral oil and petrolatum because thay clog your pores. I am going natural too so I haven't discovered products yet. I use Creme of Nature shampoo and VO5 conditioner right now and I don't really use much product yet. Try Nappturality or Motown Girl for product suggestions.

Good luck and don't give in.

Well what you need is a clarifying shampoo or an uplifting shampoo.

I would recomment ORS Uplifting Shampoo. Wash your hair with it and make sure your scrape (for lack of a better word) your scalp. This will remove all of the old skin on your head. Then i would also recommend keeping your scalp moisterized, so that the skin wont dry out and continue to cause flakes..

the website below is a forum and has all kinda of helpful information..there are also others who are transitioning natural that can give you some advice.

OK these are the steps you will need to take. 1. your 13 so your follicles are still maturing. Go to the store get Mane and Tale shampoo, and Mane and Tale conditioner but get the leave in. 2. Don't wash your hair everyday, if its dry wash it every other week. It sounds crazy but trust, it works. 3. If you like to wear it straight like a wrap, get some frizz serum, apply about 2 dime size drops to your palm, massage into hair, then blow dry with a brush or round brush. 4. Then straighten the hair with hot curling irons. 5. Its very important to wrap your hair at night with a head scarf (not cotton,it drys your hair). This will prevent you from using so much heat in your hair and also prevent it from being so dry.

First, drink 6-8 glasses of water per day for hydration. Secondly, take 2 tbls apple cider vinegar in a glass of water. Hair will grow very fast and become more silky and beautiful. Read about apple cider vinegar on the web. Makes nails long too. Cures acne. Great for losing weight because it take away the appetite. ACV has 93 vitamins and minerals. Make a rinse of ACV by mixing 1/2 cup with a quart of water for the final rinse.

I'm white, but I had BAD flaky/dandruff hair. I started using head and shoulders (the green bottle) dry scalp care and the white stuff went away fast.

Dermatologists recommend T-Gel shampoo & conditioner or get some peppermint shampoo. Also, clean your brushes & combs & make sure your stylist is using clean utensils because you can spread dandruff to other people.
