i (and my husband) filed my taxes a little over a week ago (at Jackson Hewitt). i tried to do the "money now" refund, but i found out the next day that i was denied. they then said that it would be 2 weeks before i got my refund back. okay...i could handle that. then about 4 days later they called and said the "bank" (no one has told me who this bank is....) "has received my refund and used it to pay any fees or outstanding debts that are owed. the net refund will be avaliable if any refund deposit is received by the bank, any remaning balance will be deducted from the proceeds".....and that was all it said (they had a peice of paper). Jackson Hewitt gave us some numbers to call, but of course they are all automated. we cant get a hold of anybody. what should i do??? I'M SO FRUSTRATED!!!! PLEASE HELP

Go to irs.gov and see if your refund has been released, click on "where's my refund."

You refund will go to the bank and you should get the proceeds soon afterwards, with JH's fees taken out. If you receive less than the net after JH's fees, the bank needs to explain what was taken out and why.

There should not be anything taken out of your IRS refund other than if they charged you for filing the return and if you agreed to pay whatever they said. They should of told you the amount of your refund because you need that info so that you can go to the IRS website and click on the Where's My Refund logo. You have to have the exact amount of the refund in order to do that so you can find out when your money is going to be deposited. Can't you just go into any Jackson Hewitt and they can look that info (your refund amount) up on their computer? That's nuts that they send you on a wild goose chase with a bunch of automated numbers!

You know, you really could of just filed online through a company like H & R Block or Turbotax, and put all your info in yourself---it's so easy and they prompt you each step of the way so you won't make a mistake. Then, at the end, you put in your own routing number to your bank account and your bank account number, and then the refund is sent directly to your account--the full refund with no ridiculous fees taken out either! Those refund anticipation loans are such a rip-off and so unneccesary too! Last year we did straight efile and got our refund back in 6 days! This year it has taken longer---we efiled on Feb 1 and are getting a direct deposit on Feb 16---not too bad and probably not any earlier than a "money now" refund either.

Maybe that blurb you got about deducting any fees owed ect, is their standard answer and you will get your money deposited within a few days. I have heard others on here say the same thing about about the letter and the fees coming out, and then they ended up finally getting their refund. Hopefully you will too very soon. :)

This could be a few things. I sort of agree with some of the other answers. I used to work at a place similar to Jackson Hewiit that had refund loans. When customers get denied for a "instant refund", the bank does not tell the tax service why (privacy issues). But it could be tax prep fees and you should check with the IRS to see if its released yet.

To be honest, your quoted statement doesn't make a lot of sense. It says the bank has received the refund, but then later says if they receive a refund, they will distribute. Huh? If the bank hasn't received the refund and if the IRS hasn't released it, you likely owe the government for back taxes, student loans, child support or military fees. These are the only reasons approved for refund deduction (NOT hotel bills). The IRS has a phone number on their website that will allow you to check on this.

Jackson Hewitt should tell you who their bank is. We were always open about our bank, and they should be too. Do some surfing on their website. It is likely listed somewhere. You should also see if the GetHuman website has any tips for getting around the automated systems you are calling.

Sounds like you didnt pay your tax professional at the time services were rendered, but instead asked that the fees be deducted. This means a middle man, a bank, accepts the deposit, pays the fee, and then gives you the rest.

Jackson Hewitt should have the number for the bank. Jackson Hewitt SHOULD have given you the dollar amount you'd expect after fees--- have they dont that??

Get some phone numbers and stay on top of the situation.

Sometimes if you have bills you didn't pay (even a hotel bill) it can come out of your tax refund before you recieve it...
