hi all

Has anyone used the Hotel Shared Shuttle Transportation offered by expedia? I am going from Newark to Manhatten and back several days later and wondering if its better then a taxi.

I know its shared, so will prob take longer but it will work out cheaper. Just wonder if anyone has used it at all on there trip to new york or anywhere for that matter

the name of the company is SUPERSHUTTLE they serve alot of airports in the US

My only complaint with SuperShuttle is they pick you up WAY too early. I've used them a couple of times, and each time they got me to the airport at least 3 hours before my flight. Boring! And I ended up spending more money in the airport than I would have spent on a cab.

Leaving from the airport, you may have long waits for the shuttle depending on what time you arrive. They won't dispatch the shuttle outbound till it is full so if you arrive very early or very late, you might be waiting a bit.

Personally I take cabs-- all that waiting around is just not worth it to me, just to save $40 r/t--- but if you don't mind waiting, they are reliable and the price is good.

Cabs in NYC are iffy. A cab from Laguardia to midtown, if there's not much traffic, will probably run about the same as the bus (which is the best way to go, and the cheapest) - *IF* the driver goes directly from the airport to the hotel. But they've been known to take the scenic route if they're in no hurry to get back on the taxi line at the airport. Rather than cruising around, burning THEIR gas looking for a fare, they can cruise YOU around, burning YOUR gas, and getting your money. The bus is safe, as fast as the shuttle and cheaper. Just ask at any Transportation desk inside the terminal - they can give you all the options, including approximate taxi fares. (They're airport employees, so they don't care what you do - they won't set you up with their brother-in-law for a kickback.)

Yes, I've been on Supershuttle, both through booking with Expedia, and just turning up and paying on the spot.

They'll work out a route for the passengers, so you may be lucky and first off, or unlucky and last off. They tend to group people by destination, so you wouldn't get a Greenwich village passenger with a 129th St passenger, for example. Either way it won't take long and will be far cheaper than a taxi.
