they "clocked you" going 10 over, even if it was slightly down hill and they were off by a mph or two- you were still speeding! You can fight it and give your side of the story, a judge might drop your ticket to five over giving your wallet a break on a few dollars but, if you cant tell the difference between 20 and 30 you should maybe invest in driving lessons too ;)

You were speeding, you got caught. Pay your fine.
Doing 30 in a 20 is no different from doing 45 in a 30, or 75 in a 50. 50% over the limit is serious. Since the speed limit was 20, it was likely a dangerous stretch of road, or a school zone, or heavily residential. We have limits to make the roads safe for everyone.

Assuming the officer used a traffic radar, your speed was recorded accurately. Most traffic radar devices round the speed down to the nearest mph.
That you were traveling down a hill might account for your extra speed, but you are supposed to be in control of the car and are expected to maintain a proper speed.
Unfortunately, you do not have a defense.

they could be off and yes you can use it as a defense though it may not do you any good as you should have been braking going down hill to keep from speeding. good luck

I love it when violators use the "Down hill" excuse. My usual response is: "Look down at your feet. You see that pedal right next to the accelerator pedal? That is the brake pedal and it is used for slowing your car down. And yes it works on hills."
