brand new computer (vaio) but says directx has unrecoverable problem...anyone know why? or what to do

these guys are idiots...IT HAS TO BE VISTA COMPATIBLE. on the back of the game it usually says 2000/ME/XP it does not say VISTA. gosh

What kind of video card do you have? Nvidia has been getting flak for not keeping up with the video card drivers for Vista. Make sure your driver is up todate

And make sure you install the latest patch for CoD2

To the guy above me, Windows Vista comes with Directx 10

And to the guy below me, any good software developer can make their products vista compatible by releasing a patch. Are you freaking telling me games like Starcraft wont run on WinXP because the box says its win95 compatible?

Find out what level of Directx is on the macine. Run the Direct X Diagnostic Tool. Go to START | RUN and type in:


dxdiag

Make a note of what version you have. You may need a version change.

This game is built for Windows XP and some of its predecessors and it is not compatible with Vista. I don't know what's inside vista but try right clicking the shortcut icon of the game and select properties then select the "compatibility" tab. set its compatibility to windows xp/2k/98. just try.
