I heard that today's construction equipment will be obsolete as of Jan. 2008 in California. The Diesel engines will have to be replaced and/or retrofitted which will be costly. For example, a John Deer 310SE new in 2002 will not be able to be operable in Jan. 2008 because it does not meet E.P.A. equipment standards.

sorry to answer a question with a question...but:

what if they convert all the diesel engines into BioDiesel engines?

The conversion is not supposed to be that difficult or costly, and the fuel burns much cleaner...

Yeah, CA wants to have the name of "first to try to save the world", with all the laws they pass. I didn't hear about that one but it seems like CA might be trying to go too far too fast. Best I recall semis run on diesel..semis deliver the products (food, clothing, almost everything you use). And, yes, construction equipment comes in pretty handy.
CA better think up a good plan before they ban.
