Be careful who you assume you know more about matters of faith than. Not every christian sits in Church chanting "He's all I need". There are some serious studied Christians on answers and you might find yourself eating those words.. I think you mutter elitist words like these to pick a fight.. Well bring it on. Jim

Why do you assume that I assume that you know nothing of religion? The atheists I have met have all known more about religion than I have, they have been better able to quote from religious texts than I have, and I have great respect for. Please do not assume that just because I am not an atheist, I think you are ignorant. Quite the opposite.

Why are you assuming that I assume you know nothing about religion. I'm kind of nowhere right now I just don't know, I pretty much accept every possibility but I kind of believe in god...OOO well i just don't know. Many people know all sorts things about religions whether your an agnostic, an atheist or a follower of some religion.

Absolutely! I was an atheist for a looooong time. I had studied religions all my life, and took the position that there was no such thing as a god. I lived my life very happily until something happened that completely brought me down and it was only then that I found myself on the floor of my kitchen crying out to the god that I didn't believe in. While I don't really subscribe to an organized religion, I decided that God actually did exist and it was just all the negative images of God brought about by ignorant people that was holding me back. Wars fought in the name of God, for instance. People hating each other and fighting all the time. Hungry people, homeless people, the list goes on and on. I decided to try to make a difference in my own way because God helped me through my darkest times. This is just my experience and I'm not trying to change your beliefs. Peace.

I have friends of many different religions and beliefs. And we all give each other a hard time with quotes from various religious documents. I came from a small town in the middle of the bible belt. Before I met them the definition of an Atheist alone made me wonder how much they knew of other religions. My friends first comment to me when they found out I was a Christian was that they cannot disapprove a belief without first understanding it fully. The hard reality is that I learned more about the Bible from them than any of my preachers.

My brother is an atheist. He has college degrees and has studied many religions as a personal quest. He doesn't believe in any of them. I don't assume anything about atheists except that they are missing out on the most important thing in life. You won't find God in religion. You'll find him in your heart.

As an Atheist I know more about religions and the bible than any christian I've ever met and a pastor or two, to boot. Christians assume we know little or nothing of religion because 'assumptions' are the basis upon which they live their lives. Atheists live their lives based on factual knowledge and that is an approach christians have trouble relating to.

What can you possibly know that would make you think that you know the truth when you reject the one that is the truth? And I don't mean because you don't think that he is historically true, or that there is no God, I mean, what can you possibly know about Jesus dying on the cross and rising again? What can you know that makes that a lie? Not just to you, because you must believe that your truth is the truth, or why say that you are an Atheist?

Atheist chiming in here.

In this part of the world, most atheists grew up in religious homes and if they hadn't given it some thought, they might be regular churchgoers to this day.

Think about it, folks: If ninety percent of the population believes in god, then ninety percent of the atheists were raised by believers. So they probably know at least as much about religion as the average believer, if not more.

They assume it because its convenient. I don't know how anyone can live in this world and not know at least a bit about the religions that try to control it.
