I think every culture has something disgusting. The weirdest things to me are probably entrails (guts). The scots eat haggis which is liver, heart, and I think the kidneys stuffed into a sheeps stomach with oatmeal. I have yet to try this one.

Some people freak out over cow stomach (tripe). I've had it in Italian, Mexican and Filipino dishes.

I've eaten some things that use coagulated blood. The English have blood sausage which is blood and spices put inside an casing (a cleaned intestine). Didn't taste bad.

I've had chitlins (intestines).

I've eaten cow brains, cow tongue, and liver.

I've eaten chicken livers, goose livers, and cow livers. I've eaten liverwurst and pate.

I've eaten fish roe and caviar.

I've eaten buffalo, ostrich, and snake (tastes like chicken).

I've also eaten this Filipino dish called "Dinuguan" which is blood, tripe, and pig ears with chili peppers.

The thing about blood is that it coagulates, thickening. Some people are truly disgusted by it. But I look at it as the same as when you fry a steak up in a pan and some of the blood drips off the meat into the pan and it coagulates. You still eat it.

But by far, I think the sickest thing I've ever eaten is a duck embryo. It is found in Vietnam and the Philippines. Basically, take a fertilized duck egg. I don't know at what point they decide it's ready, but you crack open this egg and you're supposed to slurp out the contents. But you can see a baby duck in there. Head, eyes, wings and all, but it's cooked. I think its boiled. It's not quite formed completely, but you can see it. THe thing is, it's soft. It's kind of gelatinous. You can see the pre-formation of what should be feathers. It's absolutely foul and disgusting.

I've actually eaten all of this stuff in my youth when traveling abroad. My mother made me eat it all. Something about eating like the natives do.

The duck egg, though, by far is the most nasty disgusting thing I've ever put in my mouth. There is no amount of money anyone could ever get me to eat that again.

A beetle inserted in a jello shot. There used to be a club in Wash DC called the Insect Club. It has a snack bar on first floor that served insects. The "chef" would tell about all the health benefits and nutri value of insects and how its acceptable food around the world. He could get the squimish person to try. I think it closed down a few years ago. A shame.

I've eaten.. ants (a Little spicy), guinea pig (didn't tasted so bad...) , intestines (gross!!), cow's tong (eww!), pigs legs (weird)...

I haven't tried this but I know people who has... Brain (cow's or lamb's), lamb's eyes, lamb's guts, cow's stomach, cow's breast (the part where the milk comes out from.. I don't know the word in english..) ...

And in my country there's a very traditional dish which main ingredient is chicken's blood, there is also some kind of sausage made with all the organs left from the lamb.. (liver, kidney, stomach, intestines)... they also have a soup made with the whole lamb's head... I also know that in the jungle they make some sort of beverage with chewed corn (saliva included...)

So, yeah.. I've heard of some pretty nasty stuff people eat..

I have enjoyed dog meat with my family in Micronesia. It isn't too bad. I have eaten sweetbreads a couple of times. These are the thymus glands of livestock. I also like foie gras. This is the fattened liver of a duck or a goose. A rare delicacy. Give it a try.

In my part of the U.S., we have the 17 year cicadas that come in by the millions. They are big, red-eyed, noisy, flying bugs that bash into everything, live only a week or so, and die in droves and clutter the gutters. I've seen them 3 times in my lifetime.

I don't know the person in this picture, but it gives you an idea of the size of them, if you've never seen one:

Every time they come out, people cook them different ways.
I once tried a chocolate covered cicada. Crunchy and gross.
Don't know WHAT the hell I was thinking about.

When I was young, I once ate this pate' stuff that was apparently pureed goose liver squished into a plastic tube.

Once when I was at a slumber party, also when I was young, I ate cat food for truth or dare.

The creepiest thing I ever ate was cow (or buffalo) tongue. It was like my tongue knew what I was chewing... it really confused my mouth, and though I couldn't feel pain, I felt as though I was chewing my tongue.

You have this part of your body naturally in your mouth, and then you put some more in your mouth and eat it... gross.

:)

Fried Cockroaches stuffed with fish particles. In China. Crispy and OK since it is cooked so well done. Some say it is a specialty.
