she got pregnant by her brother about a week ago, i was trying to keep them seperated but he got to her anyway. Now shes not really my dog I am just dog sitting for my neighbor ( we got puppys from the same momma dog) anyways what should we do? I just took the male yesterday and had him neutered, but unfortunately my neighbor hasnt returned to get his dog and i think he may not come back. Should I let her have the puppys or take her in for an abortion, I know shes not my dog but if he dont come back for her I guess she will be mine. They only had sex the one time. I am so mad because it was his responsibility to have her spade. I always get mine done. what are your opinions on this?

Will their puppys be retarded or what could be wrong with them?

I am pretty sure she is pregnant because thet were hung up for 15 minutes. But I dont think its my responsibilty to have her spade, my neighbor left her here knowing that my male was not neutered yet. And he didnt leave me no phone number or nothing. He was suppost to be back yesterday, but he never showed up and his electricity has been turned off and he has someone at his house getting his stuff, but they dont know if hes coming back or not.

i like u already without even knowing anything about u just for the
comment about the female dog, "if he doesn't come back she'll
be mine" it shows me you are not one of these idiots who do not
care about a abondend dog. should you let her have the pups, well i guess that would depend on how much room you have for
more dogs, how many pups she could have, etc. if it was me in
this situation i would rather have her get an abortion as long as
it would not endanger her health in any way, maybe she could
get all done in one the abortion & being "fixed" you seem very
animal loving & responsible good to know there are people like
you & me out there, cause i too woul keep her, her so called
"owner" should be ashame but who cares you make up for this
jerk in many ways, i am positive you'll make the right decision
thank you for being such a caring individual

You can make an appt and get her spayed. Even if she's pregnant, she is at the most 1 week pregnant. Get her spayed now.

Sounds harsh but the world doesn't need more puppies by someone who didn't have the sense to spay their dog, can't be bothered to come back for their dog, gets their dog pregnant by it's brother or whatever the heck is going on...

Sorry to sound harsh, I'm not trying to be mean. There are just too many homeless dogs dying in shelters every day. Don't add to the population with inbred mixed breed puppies for a dog that isn't even yours. It's just a bad idea all the way around.

unfortunately this happens, dogs have no reguard for familial relationships when it comes to breeding. And whatever you do, DO NOT get an abortion, most vets wont do it anyways due to the problems it causes the mother. Let her have the puppies and then find good homes for them. After they are weaned, get her spayed, it will all be for the better. And if the neighbor doesnt come back for his dog within two weeks i would call the dog mine because the cost of the food to feed her would be enough to pay for her. the biggest thing you have to worry about with inbreeding such as this is genetically transmitted diseases such as Epilepsy, Diabetes, and hip and bone problems. Retardation doesnt show up unless there is a large amount of drugs in the mothers system for Epilepsy or some other ailment.

I am against abortion in people, but not for dogs. My 1 1/2 year old poodle just died of an inherited kidney problem and when I contacted the breeder she said it was an "accidental mating" and the parents were related. She is offering me a replacement puppy (see my open question on whether or not to take a replacement poodle puppy or to get a mixed breed), but it is sad that the puppy had this inherited problem before she was even born, and her death was inevitable. This was a very upsetting situation for our family. You don't want to give away or sell cute puppies with hidden problems.

I would get her spayed asap. Vets usually charge extra if the dog is pregnant, but if you get her spayed soon they shouldn't charge you than much more. A brother/sister breeding can cause severe health problems (both mentally and physically) in the puppies and it is best to not ever let them be born. It sounds to me like your neighbor's abandoned her.

They have a doggie version of the morning after pill why not go asap to get that for her. And if that works out get her spayed asap. Or you can take her to the vet to get her spayed and not let them know you hting she is pregnant and thay will take care of the rest.

let her have the babies and then sell them or put a sign in your yeard saying "free puppies." A lot of people are against getting pets spayed or nutered so dont blame your self blame mother nature

The only one you have to worry about being "retarded" is yourself. Spay and neuter. There is enough unwanted animals in the world.

It's just as much your fault for not having your dog spade. Having said that, inbreeding happens in nature too. I wouldn't worry about abortion, just let her have the pups and sell them free or cheap. Meanwhile get him fixed. They will probably be fine but that's gross and I feel sorry for the dogs.

If your neighbor didn't mention anything about this, then don't feel bad about that. find out from a vet what possibly could be wrong with the babies, and do whatever's right from there.
