So why does anyone argue for predestination?

Ah, they were predestined to. Of course.

since you don't believe in it, the answer doesn't matter, does it.

If you were, so was I. I don't believe that God has predestined our lives. I believe He has a plan for our life but it is up to us to fulfill it. Some do, some don't. If we were predestined, there would be no purpose in living because we could change nothing.

palomnik, if you are looking for agreement, you're not going to get it from me. Predestination has to do with the ability to look to God for salvation, not each and every event and decision that we make in our lives. Calvinists are often accused of this "double predestination" and this is not Calvinism. We look at all of mankind being so damaged by Adam's fall that "no one seeks Him", and I don't know how you can deny this verse without some serious word-twisting.

Therefore, if no one seeks him, then everyone is guilty, are they not? And what do guilty people deserve? I'll give you a hint, it's not heaven!

So if we are in a totally depraved state, then how can we possibly "save ourselves" with a decision for Christ on our own? Logically, we cannot make this decision by ourselves, it must come from outside of us, not inside -- and that means that God must select his own.

And if he can select his own, the next logical step, and this is also supported biblically, you know the verses, God can do this at any time he pleases, and he has stated in Scripture when this has happened -- before the foundations of the world. It's not a foreknowing of who would select him, we already have established that this cannot happen on our own. Salvation is completely in God's hands.

Granted, there are verses that show "choice" as seen in exhortations to believe made by the elect as an outward call to the world. The people making these statements do not have access to the book of life, we have no idea who will be saved and who will not. Through man's eyes, it is most definitely "choose this day whom you will serve" -- but the reality is that it is God's choice, not ours. Man's viewpoint is a subset of God's realm, God is not a subset of man's.

Nope. You were given a free will, exactly as all the other billions of humans were. Only keep in mind that all those billions of free wills never cancel one speck of God's sovereignty. Yes, He is that powerful, that both can exist.

Yup ... makes you wonder why God would create people who are going to hell. As for this being our choice, tell that to the people raised in other religions (Islam/Mormon/JW) who are going to hell also for not choosing Jesus.
