In my opinion, for now, you need to honour your mother. When you are 18 and/or supporting yourself, you can get it done.

Honestly honey - I've seen both sides of the coin, and it's really not worth it to get it done now. You need to pick your battles with your mom because trust me - when you need her most - she will be there for you and petty arguments and "I told you so's" are not about to get you there anytime fast.

I went to Hawaii with my older sister in the summer.Talked to a few locals, they mentioned that getting piercings or tattoos in the islands isn't all that great or safe. Often times they're unclean because they have a high number of customers who all want to get a tattoo or piercing there. Not to bash on the shops there. I've just asked a few people while I was there, and they said that it's best to get it on the "main land" :P My little sister got her belly button pierced when she was 14. Within a few months, she began to hate it. I was upset, and I told her that if I ever saw it, I'd rip it out. I was upset because no damn 14 year old should be wearing clothing revealing enough to show off the piercing. Now she's 15 and realized it was idiotic and just another lame attempt to be like everyone else. She's left with this odd scar on her belly button now.

Mom's know best, Maybe there's more reasons than she's actually giving you...what if your mom has her nvmmm :P I'll keep this pg13.

Just listen to your mom, wait till you're old enough to get it...then see if you really want it then..
-.-'

You should be able to get one. I would let my daughter get one if she was 14 and responsible enough to clean it twice a day. I don't think belly rings are any big deal. I mean it does grow back should you ever want to remove it. I am in my 30 and have had one since I was 24 years old and I still really like mine. I think its a personal choice and it may not be for her, but gently remind her that it may not be for her but it is for you. Just be respectful when discussing it. Wait until the end of your trip so you can still swim, maybe later in the evening on your last night there. Good luck and please if you do get one keep it clean they can and do get infected.

Well one way of making her feel more at ease is to explain to her how the piercing is done, assuring her that you will go to a piercer who is certified and sanitary and that you are informed as to how to care for the piercing afterwards.

I would suggest getting it done before you go to Hawaii. You have to remember that right after you have it done it's most prone to infection/rejection. Do you want to spend your spring break taking care of a piercing? If you can talk her into it I would suggest finding a good piercer locally and seeing if you can get her to check the place out. Whatever you do, don't try to do it yourself. My niece did that and she only ended up with infections. That particular area is prone to infections and rejection. You have to make sure to use bacitracin on it the first three days or so after you have it pierced and then continue to soak it with sea salt and water solution for 6-8 weeks. Also you have to be sure you don't get it caught on anything...

Maybe put her fears to rest - I really don't think she's too concerned about whether you'll keep it clean and take care of it - she's probably concerned about you showing it off - showing too much skin, attracting boys, maybe she's afraid it will make boys think you're a "bad" girl. If you do end up being allowed to get it done you might want to do it at the end of your trip - it's my understanding that you can't go in the ocean for like at least a week after getting done - to prevent infection.

My daughter hasn't asked for a belly button ring, but we've talked about it and I told her when she is not living in my home, when she is mature enough to make an objective decision about her body, such as a tattoo or piercing. I don't care for how it looks, if she wants one though, it's her decision, but when she is older (not 14!) and like I said, mature enough to pay for it, take care of it and at an age of accountability. You, my dear, are too young! Get your ear pierced again. And once you have it, you'll want to show it off, big problem at your age. sorry - but you'll appreciate it later in life. Have fun in Hawaii.

Maybe u should remind her of all the other places you could have chosen to get one done ??? You know, like your tongue, lips, cheeks, eyebrows and I really and truly saw a person last night with piercings travelling up his forearms !!! By divulging all this information to her maybe she will realise how tame and normal your request is and how it will pale into insignificance in her little book of things to wig out about when your daughter is a teenager !!

I took the opposite with my girl, as yet she is only 7, so I decided to get in early. I suggested we get her ears pierced for her birthday and she was all excited about it because I have ear piercings and a small flat nose stud. However, come time to do it she got chicken legs and backed out !!! hehehe

PEACE

All the beautiful things that you could buy in Hawaii. Why would you want to waste it on a fad that will go out of style?

I wouldn't do it while you are in Hawaii. The ocean water is salty and it will burn like crazy!! If you don't plan on being in the ocean then talk to your mom and ask why she doesn't want you to have it done.
