If you are very thin, it is right on bone so it hurts more, otherwise not as much if your back is a little heavier.

Tattoos that are applied on soft and bony spots hurt the most. The best spot to get a tattoo would be somewhere in a thick muscle. For example, the outer bicep muscle would be a good choice to consider. My daughter had a tattoo done on her lower back in the "love handle" area and this hurt quite a lot. I would think that to have a tattoo done on your right shoulder blade could be quite painful. Make sure that you go to a reputable place that uses only sterilized packaged needles. The person that does the tattoo drawing should know what he or she is doing and have a lot of experience. Tattoos are much easier to get done but not so easy to get rid of if you change your mind later on. Good luck whatever you decide to do. A caring mother.

Any area on your body where the needle is going to hit bone is more painful. If you haven't had a tattoo before I would consider getting your first tattoo done on a body part that is meatier like on your shoulder, stomach, thighs, or calves. This way you'll have experienced a tattoo and can get an idea for what it feels like then gradually work up to getting something done in a place that may be more painful.

I have one on my shoulder blade that covers the whole thing. It wasn't that bad after the first time the needle touched my skin. One thing to remember when getting tattooed is that it quickly becomes numb and you really just feel pressure so if that's where you want your tattoo then jsut go for it and don't worry about the pain involved.
By the way...it hurts worse on the underside of your upper arm.

I know mine hurt there more than the others (two lower leg), but we kept getting interrupted during the outline, so it didn't get as numb during that point. But what the heck - it's not like the pain last forever, right? Just keep that in mind during your tattoo session and you'll be fine!

from what i've heard, you should be fine. tattos hurt the most in areas where theres not fat or muscle under the skin. places like along the spine tend to hurt a lot because theres nothing but bone under the skin.

Placement doesnt really matter. Its the pain tolerance you have, in my opinion. They will hurt everywhere in the end. But it's worth it ;)
