Dental chews dont do that good of a job and should only be used occasionally. I dont use them at all I think there too abrasive. I use brushes and finger burshes.

Brushing teeth is better than dental chews - if you only want to use one method of teeth cleaning. Both is ideal . . . even if you don't brush every day - brush at least once a week using a dog toothpaste (not people). You can buy a pet toothbrush or use a child's soft brush. Depends on your comfort and how well the dog accepts the brushes. Some people just use cheescloth or gauze wipes. The more you do the better for your dog. Ask your vet what's best for your dog too. Most vets recommend a high quality dry dog food rather than canned or moist food for good dental health also.

Dental chews work well, and so do the toothbrushes. You could use both, and also they make a cheese that you can sprinkle in a dogs food that keeps their teeth clean, It sounds absurd, but it works wonders. After a while, if your dogs teeth do get a lot of plaque that does not come off, I recommend getting his teeth cleaned at your vet.

Use a doggie toothbrush! I use it all the time, and their teeth are really, really clean. It's like they come out of the dental office for dogs!

Well hello, If you want to use a tooth brush and your dog don't mind feel free to use it. On the other hand if your dogs doesn't agree with the proceedure You can probably get the same results with a good dry dog food. The crunch helps scratch of the tarter from the dogs teeth. I make sure my dogs get their dry food. You can also use the dental bone, those are good too. Priscilla Ps. It's soft foods that cause problems like can dog food. I give my dogs can food but I have dry out so the can munch when the feel like it. You can mix it with can/dry

chews can only reach so much, regular brushing is the best. Maybe an annual cleaning by the vet if you don't want to brush or your dog hates it. The vet will just tell you to brush your dogs teeth anyway. My dog likes greenies and doesn't eat them too fast so we treat with those and brush too. But if said dog is not a new puppy it could have tartar buildup and may need a visit to the doggie dentist for something for evasive.

Which is better? well you might have answered your own question. It is recomended that you do a variety of things to keep your dogs teeth clean. And some of them takes a lot of work. But the dental chews are easy cause you can give them and take off again.

I would use a brush. Oxyfresh.com makes a really cool 3-sided one, plus dental gel and a solution that you can put in their water. It's really important to keep up with dental health - my rescue group just paid for a little rescue dog's dental surgery. She had to have part of her jaw removed because her teeth were so bad.
