I am trying to burn a movie to a dvd, but it spreads it out and only puts it on 2 dvds. I want it to be on one, of course. Is there a way I can compress it safely? I am using standard 4.7 gb blank dvds, fyi.

I'm assuming that you're making a backup copy. What do you mean by safely? If you're going to shrink it, it will result in some quality loss, unless you remove some video or audio.

You can use DVDShrink, or NeroRecode. DVDShrink is free but NeroRcode is a more updated version of DVDShrink. Check out the below link for more info.
