Blue Cross and Blue Shield is excellent coverage but it's also very expensive. I doubt you and your partner could afford this type of insurance. In fact, any type of private dental insurance is going to run you a $35-$100 per month in premiums alone, not taking into account the fact that you will probably pay, on average, almost 50% of dental work out of their own pocket.

I would suggest that you and your partner look into going to dental clinics for most of the dental work you'll need such as cleanings, x-rays, fillings, etc.

If you ever need dental work that the clinic is unable to perform (i.e. root canals, bridges, braces, etc.) then you and your partner should join a discount Dental plan because they're inexpensive and can realistically save you anywhere from 25% to 50% or more off of those type of procedures that your dental clinics cannot perform. You will get more for your money if you just pay our of pocket. Dental insurance plans are expensive, and only pay a percentage of the cost up to usually $1000.00 per year. It's a waste of money. . .and don't bother with the discount plans because the dentists suck who sign up with them.

Care Credit is a much better bet for any large amount of dental work. Otherwise, just pay for the work. a dental cleaningis around $100-200 per person - not bad.
