Conquest.

While Islam did conquer many lands, that dosen't explain everything. Many lands weren't conquered (like the most populated Islamic country Indonesia) but converted by merchants. Basically Islam appealed to the values people already had (much like Christianity) and just put rituals to them.

Because people actually practiced it properly, and when towns and cities heard the word's of God they accepted them. They also seen how merciful the Prophet was as a General, I can show you treaties made with not only the Pagans, but Christians as well, who were conquered and still allowed to practice what they wished.

Also the reason why the Ottomans ruined is, is because they became more obsessed with wordly life, (proof Ottoman foot rests, to put your foot up.....) They weren't teaching the religion as much, and hence you had Mustafa the Traitor.

I suggest you listen to the recitation of the Arabic words, I know you won't understand them, but simply to see what affect it has on you.

They conquered lands in order to spread "Allah's" will. After the muslims controlled the middle east they moved on to northern africa and almost took over Christian europe, but luckally they were stopped at the battle of tours, France around 700 a.d. If not, then Islam may have taken over the whole western world.

Islam offered a better solution to the divinity of Christ which people at that time were beginning to question.

God renewed his message to mankind. The Qur'an states that yes, Jesus (PBUH) performed extraordinary miracles that no ordinary human could perform, after all, his birth in itself was a miracle, he was able to talk while still a child, heal the sick, give life to the dead...etc.

But at the same time, Jesus (PBUH) was a human being, made of the same stuff other humans were made from. His creation was the same as the creation of Adam.

He was not God, nor was he the son of God. This made a lot of sense to many people who converted to Islam...

God is the one who guides people's hearts to the right path...

Salam!

By conquest and because people were tired of the various Christian sects squabbling and killing each other at that time. Some historians compared early christians to wild beasts. Islam seemed more reasonable to people because jesus was a prophet and not god, according to them.

A combination of two things. Being victorious in battle so they could take over a large part of the world of that day and.....Offering people what they wanted...i.e. the right to do what they want and be praised and rewarded for it. What man wouldn't want a bunch of virgins waiting for him when he dies? What man wouldn't want permission to kill those that disagree with him? What man wouldn't want to be able to treat women as slaves or property and to have as many hookers on the side as he wished? Just think about it. Our Christian God makes commands that we deny ourselves for his sake. Allah (via Mohammed) appeals to the worst parts of human nature and encourages them.

Before a Muslim comes back and tells me I am full of it, let me say that I know there are many of you who are very good and decent people who would never cause harm to anyone. And, I know that there have been and probably still are Christians who have done or are doing some horrible things in the name of their God. I am simply making a point about the radical branch of fundamentalist Muslims. No intent to offend.
