Yeah, they are really brainwashed. They are a cult. I watched a documentary about the mormons and their beliefs. It told how many peole who were mormons , left the "church" and told others about their practices and ended up dead. There were things in that movie that would shock you. The Holy Bible plainly states not to add or take away from the word of God. They added a lot and created their own book known as the book of mormon.

Polygamy has been practiced throughout history in many countries. And, is still legal in some countries today. Some Native Americans practiced this in earlier times.

Polygamy came out of survival more then anything else. Before our modern times, men fought wars. Thousands died. Women outnumbered the men. But, the women needed men to survive. Before all of this make easy machinery, everything was manual labor, in less you were rich.

Jobs for women were few and far between. So, society had choices. Let them starve. Or, provide for them. Hence, plural marriage became the solution.

This is the big hangup with same sex marriage. If states, or the USA, allows same sex marriage, then where do we draw the line. It seems more "natural" for a man to have multiple wives, then to honor same sex marriage. There will be constant legal battles if same sex marriage is allow.

Not only men with multiple wives, but as someone mentioned, women with multiple husbands. Or, multiple men and women marriage. And how about marrying your sister or brother? Or, marriage to your child? If everyone is consenting adults, it should be OK.

Of course, has anyone thought of the ramifications on Social Security?

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints does not allow plural marriages. If, someone is practicing this, their membership is removed from the church rolls. The ones practicing this is the "Fundamentalists." We have a group near here who have built a temple. And, their leader has a warrant for his arrest.

Yes I saw it, honestly I think its unsanitary. I mean having multiple partners and i don't think they use protection or else they wouldn't have so many kids. I thought some of them were ignorant because when the reporter asked a Mormon what they thought about feminists she said,"uhhh...abuse...". and the fact that they don't even know the person they will marry is scary. I thought is was also gross that the main guy they were doing the report on had both of his wives come from high school classes he taught. Then they get their house built for free. they also believed people of color(any race other than then whites) were cursed. I'm not black but I'm mixed so I guessed I'm cursed. I'm not shallow but many of the women in the town look 15 years older than they actually should. and they want polygamy to be legalized. Can you imagined if one or more of them wanted to get divorced and they all had a custody battle or the husband died and they all wanted his belongings? I just don't agree because of the complications, and those women did not look happy to me. But it is their life and if they want to live that way then I have no problem with it just don't try and force your ideas on others.

I grew up with a family of 10 in my neighborhood and my aunt had 12 children - too many. Of my cousins, the older ones married young or entered the military to get out because they were the childcare providers for the younger ones. None of them have education beyond high school (a few are trying to get it now in their early forties). They are all older now and are all very close, but wow! It is not the best environment to raise children from what I saw and my aunt's health suffered and she almost died from the last two births. As a child I had so much fun visiting as there was so much to do, but when I slept over there were not enough beds, blankets, or pillows for all the kids. Many slept on the floor.

I do not think the Mormon faith is anything close to true Christianity but, now that there is a Mormon in the Presidency race, I think you will hear all kinds of stuff about them that is paid for "Unofficially" by the opposing people.

Even in the Bible there is ample precedent for polygamy. The problem is that, as practiced, it all too often devolves into forcing underage girls into unwanted marriages - essentially institutionalized rape. As long as it's limited to consenting (as in actually consenting, not coerced into compliance) adults, a case can be made.

Of course, if it's only multiple women to one man, you end up with a lot of frustrated horny guys, which is great for raising an army but bad for society in the long run. Polygamy would need to be made gender neutral; then Paris Hilton could have her own harem of bimboys.

I only watched part of it and was really hoping to see the rest online simply to learn more about it. I really found it odd that the the women and older girls were looking forward to having 'sister-wives' I really can't see how they can want it. But I guess that its kinda like politics, if you grow up and your parents are die hard democrats you are likely to be a democrat, if you grow up in a polygamist home you will want that for your life. I really don't know how you would really want that kind of lifestyle.

This is a touchy subject, Does it say anywhere in the Bible that a man can not have more than one wife?, if the Bible says only one wife then they go against the writings of God.
I am a Christian man and follow the teaching of the New Testemant and don't remember anywhere reading that a man shall marry only one wife. or maybe I am wrong......

In my opinion, it's only fair to allow a woman to have several husbands if you're going to allow a man to have several wives. If that were allowed, however, everybody would marry everybody else, and we would lose the meaning of marriage.

Ever watched "Big Love" on HBO? It is about a plural marriage with three wives. It is illegal, even in Utah.
