Earliest versions of the New Testament described Mary as a young unmarried woman betrothed to Joseph. Later translations and interpretations changed unmarried to virgin. Some sources claim a Roman soldier as the real father of Jesus but without modern DNA testing it is hard to know anything.
Certainly the New Testament has been often revised and edited and not always for reasons of accuracy but more for maintenance of control of their followers.

Possible, yes. But unlikely. Look at this real life event that I had today:
I had a patient today, a girl 16 years of age, who is still a virgin and is 5 months pregnant.
It is not a miracle, much less the work of a God. But it certainly is the work of the girl and her boyfriend in foreplay. There was never any penetration and yet, it happened.
We teach our young people that even with foreplay pregnancy is possible, but youngsters don't listen to us.
However, what happened to my patient is much different that what happened to Virgin Mary. In those times, it was very dangerous for men and women to fool around as our youngster do today behind our backs. In those days, Joseph would have been castrated and Mary would have been stoned to death.
Yes, in those times, people did fool around, a lot. That's why they had laws against premarital sex and were severely enforced.
I love the story of the virgin birth, and even when it is hard to believe it, I accept it, even when I am no longer a Christian.

If you believe in the Jesus myth enough to believe that there was a real Mary, Joseph, and all the subsequent ho-hah, then it's no stretch at all to believe that she was impregnated by God, the Angel Gabriel (which means "Divine Husband, by the way..), or Joseph, or one of his poker buddies.
http://www.uhcg.org/HoI/Angels-Gender.html
When you are that far out on the myth spectrum, Zeus can imprenate with a Divine shower of urine, or Juno with Her own lily, or Leto and the Sacred Goose. I mean, c'mon here... This isn't real life. It's Fertile Cresent myth, that's more than 5000 years old! It's beautiful, glorious, and extravangent, and meant to spiritually instruct, not be an actual itinerary of a trip in the desert. And that's the point. Everyone in the Ancient world would have known what the name of the Angel meant, just as they would have recognised the Sea Goddess Mari. Which is why She always appears in blue and white robes, by the way...

And the Christos, or Annointed One.

Enjoy the story, for goodness sake. Overanylizing it just destroys the magic and the fun and whatever spiritual messages it's meant to contain. Rather like trying to find the exact tower that Zeus pissed on, and the exact medical explaination of how his semen could have found it's way into his urine, and the various method of how she could have gotten it into her system before it was infertile, and how....

If she had pre-marital sex why did joseph originally want to put her away until the Angel spoke to him.
If the latter is true Are you saying the miracles of Jesus was done by a totally mortal man ?
As Paul said if what is written about Christ is untrue we are pitiful and have no hope.

anything is possible.
Jesus could have been just a schizophrenic too.
Who knows.
Weird for the story to have lasted 2000 years though, worldwide.
I'm sure there were a bunch of other girls out there who have used the same excuse over time.
Things to ponder....

You only realized that now. Actually, Mary gave a ******** to Joseph and to God. We really don't know whose child Jesus is.

Lots of religions have a virgin birth story. Look at Krishna.
Most religions have some similarities.

thats the million dollar question that none can ever answer. for if she became pregnate in the normal way, and by who matters not one bit. jesus was just the son of a mortal man. he was a wise loving and caring man, but just a man. after all we all are children of the devine spirit. so he might be your long lost cousin.

yes it's very possible that someone made the story up to cover up their daughter's virgin birth. they made up a story about mary and the holy family.
and they wrote about jesus' forgiveness towards harlots so that future bytches would not get stoned to death referring to the "holy" bible
